Armed Americans Fight Back

Quote:
Throughout 2025, many instances of Americans exercising their right to bear arms to protect themselves, their families and their property made headlines across the country.

As of Dec. 23, the U.S. had seen 14,249 gun-related deaths and 25,606 injuries since the start of the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Of those instances, 1,119 shootings were deemed to be in self-defense, with many cases going unprosecuted due to various laws throughout the country permitting the use of guns in life-threatening situations.

Take a look at some of the most compelling justifiable shootings that occurred throughout 2025, in which Americans used guns to fight back against would-be robbers, attempted mass shooters and suspected home invaders.

"Self defense" is somehow PARF in our world!

Try selling that concept in Africa.

So 2.8% of shootings were self defense? Some of which were not prosecuted.
That is a pretty poor argument for using a firearm. That means about 98% of shootings were unlawful acts.

2.8% of that group would suggest it is all the argument they need.

That article was not fit to appear on a major news outlet's website. No mention at all of the number of suicides or police killing bad guys or even a guess at the exponentially greater number of defensive gun uses that never get reported at all. A bunch of anecdotes that made it into national news really mean nothing.

Or accidents/negligence or, unfortunately, suicides.

I've read plenty of times that the majority of gun-related deaths are suicides. No law is going to stop that.

on the flip side..how many of those justified gun self defense cases were defending from yet another firearm on the other side.?

not all of them out there are for good.

Just doing the math in my head from the article only 1 in 400 were self-defense.

I added death and injuries and divided by the self defense number.

Such as when the bad guy learns his chosen victim can protect himself, and flees.
No shots fired. Successful self-defense that will never be included in these stats.

Let's just say I've carried in places, where, if I'd had to scare off an assailant with a defensive display and was successful, I'd not even think of reporting it.

At least 1,119 Americans were saved thanks to their right to bear arms. That’s good enough for me.

When the first post quotes the second amendment, how would you not expect this thread to end up political?

Quoting the constitution, THE law of the land as written is not political, it is just facts.

Like reading about the eclipse that passed over the country. Undeniable fact. The constitution is the law, even if some parts are disliked, and many parts seem to be ignored. There is a way to change the constitution discussed right there in the constitution. If you don't like the constitution as it is, change it. It is very difficult to change for a good reason, but it can be changed.

Quoting the 2nd Amendment you get:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

How can the Constitution not be political? It defines the structure of our government. The Constitutional Convention that bore it in 1787 was political. To my way of reading English, the 2nd Amendment seems unclear. When did we have a "well regulated Militia?" Is everybody, criminal or mentally unstable entitled to have a gun to support a Militia?

Gun control is like communism. Failed every time thus far, but this time will be different!

Also confused how anybody could misinterpret this part: “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed“. The founding fathers didn’t mince words here.
