I'll Always Had a Fond Spot for the Bug-Eye
FOND spot. When I first met my Buddy David, he drove a Bugeye...he was 18, I 17....we were like brothers until he died in an industrial accident when in his late 40's...college roommates, hunting, fishing, through marriages, kids..a lot of time shared. During college, I had a '50 Ford. When David had a hot date, we'd swap cars...
Anyway, gawd,,,I felt like Jimmy Clark driving that Sprite..the quick responses to driver inputs. Sure it was gutless...48 horsepower pulling maybe 1500 pounds. I'd be terrified to drive one on the highway today. This Seattle....I'm sure others here have also driven the track...I was on parts of it, the '75 Parade auto-x. Got 3rd in class... Ah, memories. All we old guys have, it seems. Short video..under 5 minutes.

That is an angry sounding bug eye. I like it! I had a 65 MGB for years. And I seem to keep looking at rusty British relics today. There is clearly a draw.

Before I was born, my dad had a bugeye and a '67 AH 3000 when the 'rents lived in Hawaii. One of my first memories was dad (6'2" 200#) driving an MG Midget. I think he had a few other interesting vehicles as well. Shortly after I was born he went back into the Navy and all of the cool cars stopped.

Sorry, but every time y'all mention Bugeyes, I have to post this video of my buddy's old 3-rotor Sprite that we autocrossed:

No apology needed...LOL! For sure it didn't sound like a 948cc four! I'm sure that rear dam really helped at autocross speeds.

The Sprite driver must go through clutches (if you listen to his shifts) and the one missed shift could have ended his day.

In the mid-late '60s my uncle had one. Many years later I was talking to him about it. He bought a mail order supercharger for it. He said it went like a bat out of heII for a year, then blew up.
