Am I a tire kicker
2 brothers selling a car they got from some very old couple (like 90’s). The elder woman signed the title in like 3 spots making it unusable without major hoop jumping. Lady is like 90 so not going to happen. The brothers have the last registration of the couple and a bill of sale. I contacted my state via phone and email and was told the car would need to be bonded which requires taking car to state police. So besides this, I also felt the car was priced high for a car needing some work. I’d be above market after completing. I called indie about the work and pricing. I next told brothers I was going to pass. Based on the bonded title and cost to get it right. They then called me a tire kicker. I never responded but am I? I don’t think so.

Why in the world would you respond?
Do you need to be right about something? or do you need to go live a happy life knowing that wasn't the car for you? Hint: Pick #2

I didn’t respond, why would I? For simple banter and the fun of it, I was wondering others opinions on the definition of tire kicker.

Tire kickers don't do extensive due diligence. You're the opposite.

Tire kickers are folks that have little to no intent to purchase. You may have purchased, but discovered that it was a carpy deal. Eff the brothers. Their comment was likely them trying to guilt you into buying the car or just a random comment from a douchenozzle.

Write them back and tell them that selling a car with an open title or a title in someone else’s name is illegal unless you’re a licensed dealer. Betcha you won’t hear back after that.

A couple of years ago I had a real good look at an old Honda 360 CL. It was priced low enough to be a fun project, but when I asked the fellow about the title, he said his dad had seized the bike when a tenant skipped out. I advised him to take the time and make the effort to run it through the courts. Otherwise it was a parts bike and it was too nice for that.

"Wall Of Text" makes any post very difficult to read.
tldr: Old couple 'supposedly' sold the car (WHO is written on Title and signed off as the Owner?) FWIW stolen title paperwork doesn't count. Maybe they are deemed legally incompetent and not capable of the transfer. Their kid in another state controls the estate with POA. And technically owns the car. Sold car to brothers (WHO is actually on title and signed as owner?) ('Either brother' doesn't work. A single adult name is on the Title) They wanted to flip you the car and get it out of their name THE STATE said this all smells funny, big potential legal problems ahead, put bond money down or GTFO So how about an attorney and escrow at this point?

They were mid 60’s. Very childish. I never and won’t respond. Glad to hear I’m not kicking tires. Thanks

Securing a bonded title is expensive and time consuming.
Lesson learned. I won't do that again unless the vehicle is priced (low) to offset the cost of the hassle. Diligent, good decision. Sent from my CPH2451 using Tapatalk |

+1
I'd rather be called a tire-kicker than a SUCKER for buying an over priced title nightmare. They're upset that you won't take the problem off their hands.

When I bought my WRX, the title disappeared as I was going to the MVD to register it. I searched for hours. No joy. Called the MVD and they laid out the “hoop salad” to get it reissued. ugh, what a mess. Then MVD guy says, “ However, if the seller is willing to help, the fastest easiest way is you both go the MVD and it’ll take minutes to square things away.” Called the seller, he laughed and said “ sure thing!” We met at the closest to him and it was literally 15min. No additional fees or anything. Then a few days later, someone in my neighborhood put the lost title on the front door of my home. I’m guessing it slipped out of my folder and the wind blew it away.

I would feel happy if the worst thing I was ever called was, "Tire Kicker."
