APP for lecture to text

I am looking for an APP or program to help with note taking for a high school senior. Just recording I don't think will help, because he is hard of hearing.
We only need it for one class so I don't want to spend an arm and leg.

Can he use a cell phone or will this be on a laptop or tablet? If it's a cell or tablet, is it Android or Apple? If it's a laptop, what kind (Mac, Win, or Chrome)?

What OS (android, apple, win, etc...) will narrow down the search. I know Apple products do a lot of dictation these days, but I haven't tried to dictate a 1-2hr long lecture. I'm sure that there's something out there though.

Other than that, the text to speech on a i-Thing's notepad app seems to work really well

According to this link, any app on an iPhone where you can "type" text, it can be dictated. So I would think it could be used in notes. I've never tried it myself.
I feel like it may be safest to record audio so that is available as a backup, and then figure out how to dictate from the recording at a later time.

He has an apple phone that would be most convenient, but could also use a laptop with windows. We are not asking the teacher for his permission so that could be an issue.

docs/nurses in hospitals use "Dragon naturally speaking", a lot of lawyers too, several versions exist. When that breaks they cry so loud it mus tbe good !! There must be a student version for less.

If in the US then federally required by law

I helped a teacher do a captioning for a vid lecture by using notes on her iphone and dictation years ago. Demand the accommodation of being able to have the device or a mic where needed

He gets accommodations, but the school does not provide talk to text software for students. We have never needed it until this year. Most of my sons teachers would provide written notes for the lectures for him. This teacher does not have written notes.

I have found 2 that I downloaded Summary AI and Otter.ai, both of these are not free.

We will do some testing and I will report back.

Do they have t-loop compatibility and would it be possible to get a portable transmitter for the classroom?

The hearing aids may have t-loop, but we have never used that. The problem is he can only hear/understand about 75-80% of the words he hears.

Record the lecture and have Chat GPT listen to it and tell it to condense the content to a summary format.
