SuperBox for TV streaming

Anyone heard of or using a SuperBox (S6 PRO) streaming device?

$299 from Wal Mart or Amazon, internet plug-and-play to start streaming. No log-ins needed except for paid apps like Netflix, Sling, Hulu, etc. Has access to all sports including NFL, NBA and PPV events. Also features 1600 live tv channels, thousands of movies and classic shows, some newer channels still in testing phase. There's a remote with voice control, live pause and rewind, and missed event playback.

It's been around for about 7 years, seems legal! I think it's mostly designed for those trying to cut cable, save $$$, and want to conveniently watch hundreds of live channels without monthly fees. My boss has neighbor who loves it, today is first time I heard about it. Who else has one and is it the same as the old Slingbox?

Interesting. I've never heard of it before. What does it replace for a person that already has internet service and a smart tv?

Many of my neighbors have them. Obviously, they are not legal when watching any pay content (i.e., Netflix, HBO, Peacock, Prime, etc.) You are stealing the content. That said, are you going to get into legal trouble for doing it? Unlikely. Buffering problems are fairly common. And it's probably just a matter of time before providers figure out a way to block content and then you've got a $300 paper weight

I stopped in at Walmart this am to see if I could get some info off one of the boxes.
There were 4 workers in the entertainment area to help me. Not a one of them had ever heard of SuperBox.
They looked online and it said 'only available online'

I already pay for Netflix and Prime....I just want to ditch my Comcast/Xfinity box. Not trying to get something for free just wondering how this box would help me or not.

Steve, I went from YTTV to Sling and saved $35/month. Now I have discovered thetvapp.to. Open the browser on the T V and have a look. I may just use it and give up Sling.

I have 2 and will get 1 more when my wife finally says goodbye to our cable company here in Redwood City, CA.
They are amazing and no monthly charges.
I purchased mine on ebay, and there are used ones also there for sale.
You can connect them either wifi or RJ45 cable for internet access.

Don't these boxes need a "guy" that sets it up and supports it?

Sounds a lot like a Roku box which is idiot proof since I set mine up.

I use a similar product...called VSee Box.

Have had it a few years now, I pay for none of the subscriptions anymore and get everything. EVERYTHING!

What's interesting from a sociological perspective is most people would never consider swiping a watch from the corner jewelry store, but have no problem whatsoever stealing 100s and 1000s of $$ of Netflix, etc. I'm not judging anyone's decision, just genuinely curious. I've asked several neighbors directly and there's never really an answer, other than 'HBO and ESPN have been ripping me off for years'. Your mileage may vary

I understand that moral/ethical quandary. From my understanding of the product I use...it was developed by former Cable Company C-staff. They "intercept" the signal in space, thus aren't stealing anything. Or something like that.

Personally, I have no qualms using it. I view it akin to speeding.

Your choice--both options are there. The entire series of Landman is available (as well as every other series out there), and pretty much every movie ever made.

Wow... I might have to look into this. We presently pay for YoutubeTV, Paramount+, Peacock and Netflix. Wife keeps nagging me that we are paying for too much crap. Unfortunately there is something on each of those services that we like to watch.

You are correct. I would never steal from a store. My problem is the cable company is basically stealing from me. Sign me up for $100/month, then start jacking up the price almost imediately. I once agreed to a cable service that promised me a price for 2 years. After a year they denied that promise.

Had a lengthy conversation about these at a security conference back on November. I'll do some reading on them specifically, from the world I live in there's not a chance I'd put one of them in my house.

Worth a read.

And the morality of a single conglomerate paywalling a mega event like the Olympics instead of letting other broadcasters to transmit to countries like the US so there is both choice and content, and competition? (Not directed to you in particular, just the subject matter)
