MPH. In 1,000 feet. Shawn Langdon in winter testing in the Kalita top fuel car. Sheer insanity. Many are predicting 350's by the end of this season. Where is this going to end?

ET's and MPH's in drag racing kinda make me chuckle at the Indy car racing ads touting they are the fastest racing on earth..

I still remember when Kenny Bernstein went 300mph in the quarter mile. I was at work and my brother-in-law called me to tell me about it. I remember explaining to a coworker about how incredible this was and he just didn't get it.

I remember when 200 was the bar. An article in one magazine speculated it would require a mid engined vehicle with tandem axles to get enough rubber on the track. Instead tire technology got it done.

Amazing.

If they went from a quarter mile to 1000 feet, to reduce speeds and injuries/death, what will they do next?

That's a big number.

It'd be fun if the 3.50 et and the 350 top speed happened in the same season.

That’s absolutely insane. Glad to see at least one form of racing isn’t trying to reduce speeds.

That did when they reduced the track length from 1/4 mile (1,320 ft) to "just" 1,000 feet.

That is faster than the speed of a fighter launching off an aircraft carrier. Of course the fighter aircraft keep going to over the speed of sound.

Your average Joe doesn't just jump into one of those for a quick drive. I suspect that if most of us got a ride in on, we'd pass out from the Gs and all of the blood moving with the Gs.

It's amazing that the speeds and times have continued to improve the way they have. I haven't watched drag racing in decades. It's crazy to see what they are doing these days.

If they keep it up, NHRA will cut them back to 1/8 mile. I will still watch.

That sounded fast. I'm not kidding. The clutch had a different map than I seem to remember.

Yeah, if NHRA let them go back to computerized clutches I think 350 and then some would be achieved right away. But these guys found something.

Obviously.

It is astounding when you just think about it. 0 to 345mph in 3.69 seconds??? Crazy!!!

Everyone should go see one in person, at least once. The noise and spectacle is just mind blowing. And 100% bring ear plugs if you are close up. It makes your chest vibrate, and the cars just vanish down the track.

last time I was there, I put in earplugs and a guy made fun of me. said something about me in a skirt. hahahha..

then everyone around him put in earplugs...I do admit, he made it look easy going ear-naked.

those things are so loud!!! I resisted the urge to hand him a pair of plugs.
