Are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder?
I am.
I used to enjoy winter. The first snowfall was exciting and fun. Now - the cold is just depressing, and it gets worse every year. Going out playing in the snow, skiing, sledding with the kids - fugetaboutit. I'm lucky to get out of bed. I have projects piling up, and I just cannot get my ass in gear.

Don't know about SAD, but find I have serious trouble getting myself motivated to get out and attack things that need to be done. I'm assuming it's a function of age. I'm lucky I don't have to deal with the winter extremes you do, so I have a bit more incentive to get out and get going.

I have been dealing with sinus issues for two weeks now but almost over it. It started with pressure caused by strong storms we had last week. Then the pollen started falling and that made thing worse. I was attacking it all with OTC meds and holding my own but then my lymph nodes swelled up and really caused me discomfort when swallowing and I ended up going to the Dr Wednesday morning. After examining everything, I was given a steroid shot and some antibiotics and told to stay out of work until Monday so, here I am, resting now and hopefully be ready to return to work Monday. Never had lymph node issues and it was very painful. Turns out I had an ear infection and sinus infection, no fun.

I hate winter, expecially snow or ice but it does not make me depressed, just cold. Today is the first day of spring and we are supposed to get close to 90. I like it!
I can handle heat better than cold.

Vitamins B12 and D3 originate from nature.
SAD may be the feelings of everything you want to get done but maybe can't. A mountain is moved one shovel at a time.

Yes, I've fought it for years. The shift of the Earth's axis helps plenty. Thank the gods for Spring.

I hate the winter, and I hate it more as I get older.

I was looking forward to the ultra-warm weather we're having as I was going to change the oil in our cars. I got mine done last week when the wife was away. Her car was going to be done today but for some reason I just don't feel like crawling around on the concrete today even though it's nice and warm. I'd rather do it when it's warm, that's for sure. I think I'm fighting a sinus problem as getting up/down the other day wasn't the most pleasant thing. I went for a short bike ride 'round the 'hood just now and it kinda helped but not enough to get me to do the oil change.

I am definately less happy in the Summer around here.
We have been thinking a lot about a small summer house somewhere cooler for retirement.

Not sure where you are but the Northeast US winter started early and without the usual occasional breaks.
I found myself just being lazy because I didn’t want to bundle up just to step out. |

This year no. We have had abundant sunshine and fairly mild temps all year which is unusual at latitude 43N. It is our 4th winter here and has been very manageable with almost no snow. Our 1st winter here was 2021 and the month of Dec. had no sun, 8 inches of snowfall, and I was pretty uncomfortable. I need that big yellow ball in the sky.
Our solution- Take an extended trip to the sunbelt during one of our 3 winter months. CA, AZ. FL, HI. We are able to do this and it is extremely refreshing. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

100%.
Living in the PNW my entire life and our amazingly grey depressing winters, I have thought much about this. I tell everyone who moves here to do the following: 1) take up a winter sport. Whether hiking, snowshoeing, skiing. Whatever. GET OUTSIDE and move. Also, lots of winter sports are above the cloud cover so that counterintuitively, you get out of the grey. 2) Vitamin D. 3) A happy light if 1 and 2 are not enough. I was a 50 day a year skier growing up. Never had any sort of SAD back then because I got so much sunshine. Now? Winter can be bleak. I also make a habit of traveling to somewhere sunny during the dark months. |

I’m pretty sure I get depressed in the winter; I don’t really feel bad, but just don’t want to do much besides sitting on my arse.
I do take vitamin D as prescribed by my doctor and do go on daily runs or gym sessions.

I live in Arizona. The weather here does nothing but make me happy. It is a glorious, sunny, 88 degrees outside right now. The nights cool off to the mid 50s, so perfect windows open weather. This is my absolute favorite time of year.
When I lived in the Northeast...yes, I understand your feeling. I loathed the snow and the cold, dreary winter days. I will never willingly deal with that again.

I’ve only been to AZ once. We were in Phoenix for New Year’s. I remembered how it seemed like a perfect winter that it got just cold enough at night to put a little frost on the windshield. Warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt in the afternoon. And a light jacket when stepping out for dinner. |

The cold season passes by pretty quickly here. Shorter days just mean more reading after dark. I could do without DLST. I get up with the sun so a clock is for others.

Today is the first day of spring. Give it a few weeks, you'll be thrilled to be outside getting stuff done!
