so I bought a dry suit. getting it repaired is almost another dry suit!!

holy shenanigans!

I somehow tore the silicone sock on a dry suit I own. I will buy neoprene socks to wear over them next time to mitigate "next time". here is the weird part. my right foot was damp, but my left foot has the obvious hole!! the hell?\

if both booties need to be pressure tested and fixed, I think it is almost $600. hahah..I am literally at their mercy. I think I paid $800 for the thing and it is stupidly bright ass yellow. wish it was more understated.

True story: I was once listening to the marine radio.
"Martin! we found a school of them! where are you?"
"over here by glass house, next to a dude in a bright ass yellow suit"
"oh, I see you!!"
Me: "fuvk"

my wife bought the thing imagining the coast guard helicopter searching for me.

I'm tempted just to find a new suit on sale!! a darkish brooding blue one.

ROFLMAO! Well, at least you know she's not hoping for a life insurance payout any time soon. Or maybe the bright yellow is so they find the body and she doesn't have to wait long. I guess it could go either way.

I'm still LOL about the marine radio conversation.

You need this

Then you could sneak up on the fishes!

That’s hilarious!!

When I was doing my wreck cert, I was using my first Dry Suit. It was a fluorescent orange upper, grey stripe with a black lower. Mrs. Bugs want something she could easily see.

When I busted it out on the boat, everyone went wild and started laughing. I heard every conceivable Home Depot joke imaginable. It was all in good fun. When we hit the bottom at 105’, on the Yukon in San Diego, vis was so so.

When we all surfaced and were on the boat, everyone one came up to me and said “Dude! We love your suit color, we could see you!!”. I then became the “rally point” of our dives. lol

I stumbled upon an old Coast Guard rescue suit. Thought I could convert it to a back up dry suit. Bright, lots of reflectors, the works. Then I was shocked into reality at the cost to replace the wrist cuffs, neck seal and boots.

Needless to say, it did not happen.

Cheers

Chaw!!

Funny thing about dry suits, because they are so spendy, I went top shelf when I decided to get one several years ago. Custom tri-lam material, custom fit to my measurements, knee pads, butt pads, blah, blah, blah. The GM of the dive shop I am associated with did a good job convening me to do so.

Fast forward to me as an acting DM for classes and smashing around in the bottom with students. I then think to myself, “I don’t want to tear this thing up because of my sizable investment. A little while later, I go back to the dive shop and look around at options. I pulled the trigger on another dry suit made in the UK. The Typhoon series, I was able to get into it for a fraction what the other mfg was (DUI). After my DM deal with the owner, all said n done, I got it for $750.00 for suit, rock boots n undergarment.

If I am totally honest, I wished I had gone with the Typhoon from the get go. Dives better, feels better and the air cell is way more manageable. It’s just a better suit to dive. Moral to the story, more expensive does not mean better.

Unfortunately, it’s been so long since we have dove cold CA water, the wrist, neck and booties will turn to dust. Poof!!! lol

On a side note, converse tennies work great as shoes/boots for dry suits.

My orange ones work great for the DUI, really completes the clown look really well.

Neoprene can be patch if you don't care the look. I bought a tube of glue and patch another piece of neoprene on top. It works but the thing is that it become harden. If you would like to know, I can take picture of the tube brand.
