how is Tannerite legal?
I have never blown any up. but soon to be happening. the hardware store near my brothers hunting property sells it. I want to see it for myself.
show of hands. who has tried tannerite? I saw a video where some guy blew up a herd of feral hogs at a feeder. it kinda sucked, but I couldnt look away. you could take out a motorcade with it.!!!

I've never seen it in any way other than in videos.
That's a good question. I've seen videos where guys demolished appliances and cars with it. If you buy enough, it seems to make a pretty big boom.

It's aluminum and ammonium nitrate iirc and it's not exactly rocket science to make.
Same deal with ANFO, which also goes boom. It's not legal in a bunch of states and on some federal lands. I'm too lazy to google the exact list of restrictions. Now if you want a real fun time go make some nitrogen triiodode. Kid I knew in HS made that and left it to dry on the floor in the garage. His mom saw the powder and decided to sweep it up. She was not impressed... But that's the same kid that hooked a 1F capacitor (from a Betamax - they used them as backup storage for the clock) to the mains and blew a hole in the floor... |

I have shot some over the years, we won’t do it unless it’s a real wet spring and then be very careful where it’s done.
It is currently temporarily banned in my county due to extremely dry conditions. We did get a good amount of heavy wet snow yesterday, so hope that helps. |

In AZ a popular thing to do is to fill old microwaves with Tannerite. You place a couple of them in along a length of desert wash and get all geared up with your combat & camo gear. Then you go maneuver up to them as quick as you can in a group and shoot them up till they explode. Guy who makes the most blow up wins.
You get to realize how heavy all that stuff is and how geeked up you get when gunfire and explosions happen around you. Everybody is sucking wind and looking rattled when your done. Bring earplugs. BTW, a .22 cal. won't make it explode but an M-4, AK or AR ammo does make it go boom.

Grenades are 100% legal to buy and own. You do need an expensive federal license, and then a safe place to throw it. Boom, there goes $600 or so. Check out the "most armed man in America". He owns full on tanks with 50 caliber Ma Dues on top with fully working cannons, and he has the ammo for them. Crates of grenades, he has cluster bombs, racks and rack of full auto machine guns, crazy over the top collection, but all 100% legal. That document called the constitution keeps it legal. He has some full tours of his museum on the videos. He did say that after a certain size of cannon it does get illegal, as it is considered artillery.

We shoot it all the time on my in-laws’ land, it’s awesome! The best thing we blew up was a couch, there wasn’t much left.

I'm sure it's different now....but I remember going to the hardware store with my G'pa to pay for sticks of dynamite and fuses. I believe he had to sign a paper and then he was given a key to a small storage building out of town that the sticks were stored in. Grab them and return with the key.
The dynamite was used for removing stumps when clearing land.

I only seen it blown up one time. We were at a run down gun range and the next thing I know, there was an explosion about 15 feet in front of us. Some ass hat didn’t tell anybody, and was shooting it with a pistol. What a douche bag.
We never went back there again |

Having been a Combat Engineer in the Army, we were demolitions and explosive specialists.
I've done my share of shaping charges, cratering charges, C4 and det cord. That said, I still love a BIG BOOM. But fireworks and tannerite just don't do it for me. And I've seen those videos of tannerite in microwaves, dryers and other enclosed appliances. That's like "instant Claymore".

Yes. Boggy swamp or something like that, up 41. It was like the wild West back and looked like a trash dump, with all of the cardboard, TVs, etc..
Twin Pond gun range up 17, is really nice. It’s been a couple of years. I need to go back. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My future son in law has taken me there a couple times. I’m from Massachusetts so not quite use to that. It was sort of a free for all, people moving in and out to shoot real quickly. I’m glad I saw it and glad places like that still exist, just not my thing.

I have shot tannerite and seen it shot by others
Kinda cool once but I have also grown out of doing mag dumps etc even when shooting full auto (buddy has a m16, two Uzis, a 1919a4 and a MAC10 i get to play with regularly) Can say that having a random small boom in the berm is kinda cool at machinegun shoots etc but it does bring other safety considerations into play |

Ammo is way too expensive to do mag dumps. Especially when you’re shooting something like tannerite with a high powered rifle. The rifle also comes in handy to get a little distance, though it’s fun to feel the concussion and shockwave.
