Window air conditioner repair?
My window air conditioner has slow slowly gotten warmer, to the point it’s not putting out cold air.
I opened it up and the evaporator and condenser fins are clean. Although the backside of the evaporator looks very corroded. The compressor runs and I see the copper is frosted just before the evaporator. There are no ports to add refrigerant, but looking online, there’s what’s called a bullet tap. With the frosted copper, I’m thinking it’s low on refrigerant. The bullet tap and R32 refrigerant would be about $125 to top off the system. A new window air conditioner is $490*. * The neighborhood HOA doesn’t allow standard window air conditioners. I like this window unit, because I can close the doors to the owners bedroom, to keep it colder than the rest of the house at night. So what do you think, take a chance on repairing it for $125 or bite the bullet and buy a new one for $490? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you don't find the cause of the leak then you are wasting time and money...

Window shaker
Piercing valves suck. They leak around tha seal, through the port. All you’ve effectively done in poke a hole in the liquid line to leak refrigerant out. Trash the window shaker and buy a new one. A contractor lives near me, built three new spec houses at over $300k a pop. Driving by and see window shakers hanging out the windows. Too cheap to put in central air?
