Bennington marbles.
I’m starting to gather my things up in my office. I found and remembered my marbles. I was freshly hired, (low man) so I monitored excavations for huge bridge footings in San Francisco. It happened a few times. I’d see the operator dump a load of material and I catch the super brief glimpse of the flash of blue. I whistle and he pause. I kick the soil and find these. Old ass clay marbles. One was white clay. I found several new marbles, but the blue Bennington marbles were the s. The operator caught on, a never found anymore. He could see them from the seat and stop the rig and search himself.
I have four. I’ll put them in a vintage jar and put them at my desk at home. Even the ceramic jar I found is old. I think it an old medicine or makeup vessel. After all this time I finally googled the marbles and learned they are Bennington marbles. ![]()
