Need to dump Verizon

My Internet connection has got so bad that I can’t even watch baseball on a Sunday afternoon. It hasn’t always been this way. But it seems like on the weekends in the afternoon. It’s the worst. The word is they’re gonna put up a cell phone tower, but the do gooders came to the meeting and voted it down. Don’t know what to do, but it’s so bad I think frontier would even be better . Not sure they dig me on my cell phone bill if I dumped their Internet service. Been talking to everybody, and everybody that lives in my area has declared in a dead zone.

Verizon bought Frontier. But if you can get fiber optic that's the way to go. AFAIC none of the 5G stuff works well. And your viewing times are when the traffic is a little too high.

Good idea. Hopefully, there will be no problems making the switch with Verizon the parent company.

Starlink for the win. $55/$80/$120 per month depending on the speed you need. the "slow" one is typically 200mbps.

I don’t know if switching would work. I left Verizon for a bit and went to spectrum and reception was terrible now I’m back at Verizon. I think it’s the cell phone tower just got overwhelmed by growth in my neighborhood. I think Zeke might be onto something, or the other alternative is Starlink.

Different cell vendors will potentially be very different with respect to level of service so Verizon could suck and T-Mobile could be great or they could both suck. The best way to know would be to have someone on those services check someplace like Speedtest at various times and days from your place or to try the service being prepared to cancel if it’s not good.

But yes if you can get decent fiber optic service then that would likely be better. Although there are folks in my rural area that are always complaining about some ISP (frontier, spectrum, ?, can’t remember).
I’ve only ever heard good about Starlink.

Have you called Verizon to see if there is a way to boost signal/speed during high demand ? If fiber optic is an option in my opinion that is the best . But it's not the cheapest option .

I would seriously investigate what is going on with Starlink before jumping ship to it. They're putting HUGE charges on certain types of bills now in some places. Not exactly sure what is going on but it certainly doesn't sound good for those with limited options.
It's worth googling.

Direct TV still does dishes if you have good southern exposure. They seem to be shifting as a company, but it still works the same for some in certain regions. I have no idea as to what they charge vs. Starlink. Somehow I think SL is the future.

Direct TV does not provide Internet via satellite. They piggy back on another provider for that. That's a major disadvantage unless TV is your prime concern. Phones do much of everything else.

That's a good thing. DTV Internet via geosynchronous satellite was HORRIBLE.

I've had Ziply fiber (was Frontier and Verizon before that) for years. Every so often, it's necessary to call up, complain about the service or the bill, and they make it right.

Starlink may be a good alternative, but validate that service works where you are.

My friends mother lives in a rural area with limited internet. My friend set her up with Starlink, the service is excellent. She now has reliable internet.

They all suck.

We had AT&T because it was supposed to have good coverage. Too many dead cells and no coverage at home. Went with Verizon because they’re supposed to have the best coverage. It had just as many dead cells as AT&T areas. No coverage at home either. Back to AT&T and no improvement.
