Nepal mudslide

If you've ever wondered about the power of a mudslide...

That is terrifying. If you are of the mindset please ask that fate have mercy on all those suffering through this.

That would have to be one of the worst disaster video ever! Many hundreds dead in a few moments.

Watching that one person on the second vid that stayed with a fallen comrade for a second before taking off again was heartbreaking....

There are many more videos of the disaster that were so heartbreaking too watch.

Absolutely nothing they could have done to save themselves

The man at the end of this video asks a good question.

Is the accumulation of so much water being monitored? Can it be monitored? That is indeed a mind boggling amount of water.

Gravity is relentless, water and mud are pretty much unstoppable at that volume.

Very sad for the loss of so many lives.

I’ve seen a bunch of little clips of the flooding. It’s impressive and horrific.
Mother Nature is a beyotch and takes no prisoners.

In a lot of ways the videos remind me of the videos of the 2011 Miyagi prefecture tsunami.

Yeah, the only way that it could have been worse is if it was a pyroclastic flow from a volcano. The result between the two is pretty close, but the heat, of course, impacts anything nearby whereas this sort of flooding is more forgiving of the folks that don't get swept away.

I was thinking the same thing. I was in Tokyo for that earthquake and it not the hardest hit. The videos from northern Japan, the absolute scale, is hard to imagine. Prayers to all affected and worse lost.

I read a report that the "tongue" of a glacier overhanging a valley at the 16,000' level just broke off and plunged into the valley below and exploded into rock, ice and water, actually recorded as a earthquake. Lord have mercy on all those below.

Outside of a divine miracle, I don't see any way to survive such a deluge.

Glacial breakaway is what I read is the main theory by scientists as to the cause of this devastating event . If they are correct unfortunately this won't be the last . RIP to the fallen .

What a horrific thing! As I watched the video I kept saying, "Turn right, turn right, go UP the hill, not down the street!" I'm not sure that there was time to do anything but panic.

Yes, in the videos you see cars driving and people running, and that's the appropriate reaction, but whether either was helpful is fully down to luck or the grace of God.

Also interesting in one of the videos you can see a flurry of birds fly past the camera. At least they had a chance.
