To expand on "infamous" A quick search found this tidbit.
In the early 1980s, for example, the IMSA sportscar championship in the United States fell victim to a series of drug scandals, involving leading drivers. These included the 1982 and 1984 IMSA Champions John Paul Jr and Randy Lanier and the Whittington Brothers. Paul went to in jail for several years for racketeering, while his father John Paul Sr was given a 25-year sentence after pleading guilty to importing marijuana, tax evasion, possession of a false passport and shooting a federal witness. He was on the run for several years and was eventually arrested in Geneva, Switzerland, by FBI officers. Lanier was another man to try to make a run from justice. He was convicted of importing and distributing marijuana and was due to be sentenced when he disappeared. He was arrested eight months later in Puerto Rico. He eventually went to jail for life for his involvement in a huge cocaine smuggling ring. |
The Whttington's, Bill and Don also spent some time in the big house. They're out now and have been for a few years. There was also Dale, the youngest. I use to know a guy that was on thier crew. He could tell some stories about the good 'ol days. South Florida in the late '70's, early '80's was a rockin' place. "Say hello to my little friend...."

This is the 1979 LeMans winner. I've read a story that they actually bought the car on the grid before the race from Kermer. And paid cash.

HMMMMM paid cash, the 80's, South Florida. I think I know why they went to Stark.

That's some great stuff guys. Someone should start a thread on the main page (sure it's not technical, but it;s good P-history) for famous or infamous cars and their owners!

The '79 LeMans winning K3 has been parked in the same spot at the IMS HoF museum for the past seveal years. Its become kind of an annual ritual to go visit it every F1 weekend now... Tim http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1108500294.jpg |

Downtown SmelLA?
|
|
|
You're looking at Century City and the cluster of buildings off to the right is the "concrete canyon" of Wilshire from Beverly Glen to Westwood. (first picture)
|
Wilshire District?
|
Bingo,
The first pic is looking to the West, the Pacific ocean is out there in the distance. The green in front of Century city is Beverly Hills. The Second pic is looking East and downtown. The third is inbetween the two. The string of buildings that are spaced apart ( I'm guessing ) are on Wilshire Blvd. ? I Think? The high ground in the background is Palos Verdes. |
