I just can't get over that World's Tallest Building pic.

The story as I heard it was this helicopter was located on the ramp between some hangers.
Two mechanics were working on this helicopter.
Each mechanic was positioned on each side standing outside on the landing skids.
The pilot controlling the helicopter was attempting to keep it stationary on the ground with the rotors turning.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1130862329.jpg
This type helicopter can require a little more attention as the collective pitch can continue to increase
requiring the pilot to keep it in check or the helicopter will leave the ground.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1130862373.jpg
Well it is rumored the collective pitch may have got away causing the helicopter to lift.
One mechanic said f that and as the helicopter became airborne he jumped and ran, the helicopter started a
sideways drift fortunately in the opposite direction of the scrambling mechanic.

The other mechanic held on for the ride, short ride.
The helicopter rotors obviously impacted the hanger.
When the helicopter came to rest everyone was alive.
The mechanic that held on ended up inside the helicopter, he did spend a couple days in the hospital.
The pilot ended up on the ground underneath the helicopter.
I'm pretty sure that's not him with the beer leaning on the hanger wall.;)

Again this is all second hand information.
No bystanders were seriously injured.

Which other "car" was (very) directly influenced by the Carabo?

Lotus Espirit....good try....perhaps it was but I never ran into that info.

Door stop? That's the TR-7 :)

Anyone else?

cashflyer 11-01-2005 09:58 AM

I would have also guessed the Lotus Esprit, but you may be referring to the Countach.
From THIS PAGE is the following
Quote:

Much inspiration was drawn from the Carabo when the Lamborghini Countach was designed, which enherited the overall shape and the scissor doors first seen on the Alfa Romeo show car.
Here are some more Carabo pics: http://dhost.info/thesupercars/supercars/bertone/carabo/68carabo.html

Here's another Italian; also of wedge design:

I think a lot of cars were probably influenced by that, because a lot have cues that follow that.

But a DeLorean seems like it copied quite a bit from that green car.

cashflyer 11-01-2005 10:15 AM

Craig... what's that one? Looks like a bimmer badge on the front...

Craig 930 RS 11-01-2005 10:17 AM

Fiat X1/9 prototype from 1968..........

An x1/9 was my first car.
Ran great for 3 years with zero problems......then.......KABOOM

austin552 11-01-2005 10:22 AM

No kidding. And narrow too. You sure don't see buildings like that very often.

}{arlequin 11-01-2005 12:11 PM

yeah, i believe such buildings require tit-anium hardware for support

Superman 11-01-2005 12:26 PM

Yes, I was imagining alternate methods of support for those structures.

mtelliott 11-01-2005 12:50 PM

Building, what building. I still can't see a building. ;)

Craig 930 RS 11-01-2005 01:10 PM

The climb to the 2nd story is an arduous, yet pleasurable experience.
