A grain? More like a cement truck.

Perhaps, unfortunately. And it affects badly the attitude of drivers to all riders. But: after you have been hit by a car once (...or twice...or more...) it tends to make your riding behavior a whole lot more defensive and cautious. Less likely to flaunt traffic laws. More aware that you aren't entitled, and you aren't at the top of the food chain.

Not a grain? Sure there is.

I think you misread what I wrote. I said that there is a grain of truth to it, and that it is too bad that there is. That when we bike riders act like that, it negatively affects how all drivers perceive us. I also suggested in a follow up post that such behavior on the part of the rider can lead to getting hit. It is hard enough sharing the road with autos as is; you don't need to add risk by riding stupid. Better?

I've been hit by a biker before. While I was parked in the Fred Meyer lot off Terwilliger. I got out of the car to ask if he was alright and he blamed it on ME.

In my experience most drivers I encounter while riding are very courteous. Many of the other cyclists I encounter seem to be idiots. I go out of my way to obey all the traffic laws. Why is it that the few belligerent drivers out there always pick me to run off the road? This is how I looked after someone clipped me and I went into the ditch.

Sensible cyclists have to deal with
a) Idiot drivers,
b) Blind drivers,
3) Idiot cyclists that antagonise drivers.

Odds are against you......., be careful out there.
