Most spots in SoCal, it's just how long can you hold your breath. If it's a reef bottom like Hawaii or Tahiti, then the coral can really bite you!

I got a horrible infection after scraping my shin on some coral while surfing on Guam in 1965.
Our favorite place was Talafofo Bay where there was no coral but we were on the other side of the island that day and payed for it.
