Here is what can happen when a freight car wheel stops turning while the train does not.

I don't understand how any person can mentally-accept a remote-controlling of their transportation vehicle which has been fully purchased.
Much less a 'driver-less' (at freeway speeds mind you) containing their entire family.
To give over all personal control to a vulnerable network.
This vulnerability has been present since inception.
[parf comment: It doesn't make sense. Mass suicide can be better utilized by a national structure.]
To give up. Accept anything and everything. My will is not my own anymore. It is yours mentality.

vs.

Trains that do burnouts down to the bearings.
Trains that actually crash into each other.
WTF.
No seriously, WTF.

2017 is today's date.
Gigaprocessing is so yesterday.

A quick trip up to Mt Baldy this morning with a buddy - and my first time behind the wheel of a Z - in this case, a 240 with a later 280 motor. Very fun car!

Yeah, that has always puzzled me too. This is purely a wild a$$ guess: Perhaps a section of the wheel tread fractured and fell off. The jagged edge dug in more and heated up, shedding off fragments while the other wheel was relatively smooth and just slid along. Because of the equalization in the truck suspension was then screwed up, less weight was transferred to the good wheel. It would have had a flat spot in the tread but nowhere as severe.

If you guys like trains and ever find yourself in Old Sacramento, then you would dig the Railroad Museum. They even have one of the original Gold Spikes when east met west.
