Airplane in the photos above is a C/KC-97, no doubt.

Airplane in the photo being used as a house on the previous page is a Curtis C-46.

Lots different in the two birds, the C-46 was a two engine workhorse used during and after WW2, while the C/KC-97 is strictly a post-WW2 airplane.

None of the pics I had of the C 46 showed up the bulge in the lower part of the fuselage like that.

Thank tcar... I wouldn't have gone looking if he hadn't mentioned the C-46 originally.

B-17 is photoshop.
The B-57 is one of two operated by NASA for "research".
The Martin B-57 is an American version of the English Electric Canberra.

From Wikipedia:
WB-57F - Weather reconnaissance version.
Two WB-57F aircraft were transferred to NASA and are the only WB-57s still flying in the world today. They are used for atmospheric research and for monitoring Space Shuttle takeoff and landing.

Steve, I was down your way last summer for work. Since I had the only car I couldn't break away. They had some cool stuff down there.

Every aviation enthusiest should be able to discuss this photo.

What's so special about it? ;)

Les

Les, while the Stratocruiser DID have the same bulge as the C46, check out the windshield configuration, plus the side view clearly showing the patch over the door PLUS the shape of the side window. The Stratocruiser was a great bird as well, but our "mystery house" is a C46

Craig, was that your wife?!! Sweet, can you put her in contact with my wife? I need her to explain how important it is to lie naked on the hood of my car constantly.

Craig 930 RS 11-02-2006 10:22 AM

I wish it was ;) But I am lucky, as she is 36D..... too much information :p

My guess is Marion Cole, who used to fly some amazing displays in his Aero Commander and did the best "drunken J3 pilot" routine ever. He lives here in my town (SHV) and still teaches aerobatics. If you never read his brother Duane's book "Roll around a point", you're really missing out. He's always hanging around the EAA hangar @ our old downtown airport.
