About the mystery aircraft. I don't think the c 46 had the lower bulge in its fuselage. I think its a Boeing Stratocruiser. Boeing took the basic components of the B 29 and made a long-range airliner out of them.

Actually its a Boeing model 337, also called the Stratocruser. Air Force model was the C-97 or KC-97.
