Art Now and Then: Syd Mead
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dndEPLhwgG...rtfolio_01.jpg
Quote:

Following a stint in the Army, Syd studied at the Art Center School in Los Angeles where he graduated in 1959. Immediately the talented young artist was snapped up by Elwood Engle at the Ford Motor Company's Advanced Styling Studio where he worked for two years. Following that, Mead worked freelance, illustrating science fiction books, and creating forward-looking catalogs for several large corporations, among them U.S. Steel where he was given free rein to unleash his futuristic automobile concepts on a scale far beyond that of the ever-practical designers at Ford. His dart-like automotive projectile (top) and the Innovari Prototype (above) are from this effort, what has now come to be called oxymoronically, "retro-future."

This year we displayed Dash-X, a UAS we are developing with NGC. It flies great as well:

I agree not a new concept.

In one of my designs from 25 years ago that I put into clay model form I had a circular inlet on the top representing a centrifugal fan intake that could be directed for lift or thrust (inspired by Seaview's flying sub). I pondered the possibility of fan starvation or stall that would limit forward motion speed. Such visualization coincides with an air-cooled 911's fan efficiency without a ducktail/teatray/whaletail.

The Flying Sub did not use a hovercraft's centrifugal fan, but it was reminiscent of such a design in my opinion.

Hilarious, and the two actors competed for the same role.

Here's Why George Lucas Didn't Want Harrison Ford To Play Indiana Jones

Both Lucas and Spielberg thought Selleck was perfect for the part and were ready to shoot with him as the lead. Unfortunately for Selleck, the actor had already filmed a pilot for a CBS detective show called "Magnum P.I." and couldn't get out of the contract.
EDIT: Looks like the original cartoon had Chip and Dale without clothes, later versions mocking/playing tribute to Raiders of the Lost Arc and Magnum PI were probably done after the movie's release.
