When I worked at an auto parts store back in the early 90s, I've given returns for $5 lug wrenches and plenty of other stuff. I've had folks try to return all sorts of stuff.

Back in the day, I had a girlfriend who worked at K-Mart. She told me people who just grab stuff off the shelf and schlep it the return counter and ask for a refund, saying they forgot the receipt. The scammers learned which managers were more lenient and let them get away with it, and would run the game over and over.
