It is difficult to take in the rapid rise of Japan given their limited resources and space. |

Japan came back in a short time ONLY because we spent BILLIONS of dollars rebuilding them after the war. If we had been like most victors of a war it would have taken decades longer. We did for same for Germany and France and many countries. Now those three allies are very rich and powerful countries instead of being a third world country.

I was going to throw this into that 356 thread, but I guess it's better here.

(thx Except for the the P-51 switching to the RR engine, I never knew we used equipment sourced from the Land of Lucas engineering.) ;)
Interesting thing about the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought_F4U_Corsair: It was built around the engine. Getting the biggest fattest paddle propellers on it required drooping the wings for the landing gear thus the shape. The other aircraft to use that same engine were: Canadair CL-215 Convair CV-240 family Douglas A-26 Invader Douglas DC-6 Grumman F6F Hellcat Martin B-26 Marauder Republic P-47 Thunderbolt Sikorsky CH-37 Mojave https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_%26_Whitney_R-2800 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1538700364.jpg |
From what I understand, the F4U used a geared multi stage supercharger whereas the P51 had a turbo. Each had its pluses and minuses. The turbo superchargers were superior at high altitude but the Navy was not usually up there.
