You can claim the Crystal Palace is a live music venue, but that's not what the websites show at all - sorry. At least you have done all that research you need to write a really interesting book with believable characters. ;) Delegate student dress as book characters https://www.bombalatimes.com.au/story/5067784/delegate-public-school-scholastic-book-fair-and-book-parade/ http://nnimgt-a.akamaihd.net/transfo..._h678_fmax.jpg Quote:
Oh wait, there is a C.O.P. in the back to pick up his graft payment. But hey, the live music was awesome back in the day. |
I am amused about the comments about the bars and associated "support" around the bases we had in the P.I. Olongapo City next to Subic Bay Naval Base and Angeles City outside Clark were small and regular cities until America moved in. The Airforce men and women were a lot lower key than the Navy "animals" since they were there all the time so there were fewer bars with the girls and bands and that famous San Miguel beer. On the other hand Subic was more like a ghost town until a carrier and it's escorts came in and really stand by if TWO carrier would pull in! You are looking at close to 12,000 men (few women then) who wanted to blow off steam! Beer went from 1 peso to 5 pesos, "Monkey Meat" went from about a peso to 3 or 4 or 5 depending on how many little grills the girls had. There would be so many baby ducks dropped into the famous alligator in front of the Sapango (not sure???) that it would eat it's fill and sleep for days! The bar girls would come from everywhere, for example a secretary in Manila would make $5 a day, in Subic they could pull in $200 a night or more. The smart ones would save their money and buy a house in the country or a small business such as clothing shop, shoe repair OR go to school and get certified as a nurse. Just inside the main gate of Subic there was the "Marriage Office" and there would be a line there starting at day break until closing time to get all the necessary paperwork to get married and move with all their relatives to Alameda CA or Long Beach or San Diego. The results of this is still seen with all the older nurses in many San Diego area hospitals who still have their P.I. accent. Of course all this is "hear say" as I never went out there in town and stayed a "cherry boy" until I got married!
