If I remember correctly that was the aftermath of a stolen car and lost innocent drivers lives.

Byron, I remember all those products like it was yesterday. Now, what the heck are those spacers called for the trucks?

I was at the Skateboard museum at Morro Bay a few months ago with my kids (they are bored to death of course). That place brought back so many memories. Mainly the hay days of the late 70s to early 80s skateboard culture here in socal. They posted many pictures from the skateboarder magazine and I remember most of them, scary. There were a few guys there I chatted with and they all around my age. We check our adulthood at the door and were 15 again. Fun times

I'd also love a couple of these.
425hp 396, 4spd

Chebby called em 396's, but after 1969 they were actually 402s.
Chebby said they had up to 375 hp, but most folks figure that was under-rated.
(Yes, they made a rare solid lifter 425 hp 396, for the corvette. Don't think it were installed in much else unless yenko did it).

Bottom line, can't trust chebby ;)

402 is a 396 +.030 (bore of 4.124 vs 4.094). The 396 was available starting in 1965 and the 402 started in 1970.

A HS buddy had a '70 El Camino with a 402.

Actually, the Full Size (Impala, Caprice, Biscayne) was available with the 425hp 396 in 1965. It was a weird year since the 1965 Impala could be had with a 409hp/409 or a 425hp/396 as well as the other small blocks.

Yeah, I think the 425hp version was only available in the Corvette and full size cars in 1965.

Turns out they sold over 1800 of the L78 engines in '65, most in vettes but some of em were in biscaynes, bel airs and impalas. Lots of COPOs and special orders.

experts say that same engine had 375 hp when installed in "non-corvette" cars starting in 1966, because chebby was playing games so as not to hurt sales of the corvette.
Near as I can tell, the only difference between the 11 to 1 solid lifter 396 installed in an impala and one in a corvette was the corvette had a little better exhaust manifolds.

Dad said when he ordered his '66 Chevelle new the dealer told him the 396 engine was printed and balanced in NY. Not sure how true that is, but it was quick.

No doubt, my two favorite chebby engines were the 327 and the 396 402
never had a chance to drive or ride in a car with the big HP 427, I heard it was a beast.

Bucket list item #12 right there that flipper posted. Nice in red, too.
