The ship was sawed in 8 or 9 pieces with a diamond coated cable, a boat cutting saw as it were.

Being that it's in black and white, I'm guessing this is a photo of some well known event... well known to everyone but me. The guy on the right looks slightly familiar but I can't place him.

I read that the cutting wire was actually able to cut through the engine, also.

i would expect them to be able too, shipping engines aren't exactly made of titanium or hardened/forged steel
they are way to big, so i would think they are mostly cast alloy or iron..

Tho even so , I kinda would expect them to cut around em, since that's just quicker..
