Bob, I've always admired 2002's. I know very little about them other than the ones to have are the pre-impact bumper ones(?) and (perhaps?) the tii's? What kind of power were they putting out? I assume it was modest. They always struck me as very "tossable" kinda like a Datusn 510. What's the story on this one? Is it really three colors or did the photo just come out that way. I like the look/color combo. What brand wheels are those? Are they 14's?
Dan, They're all nice. The square lights (74-76 impact bumper cars) have their pros and cons as do the roundies (66-73). The (common) one to have is a 72/73 Tii. The holy grail is, of course, the Turbo. The Alpina cars are very desirable. Then there's also the Ti's, but they're harder to find. I've had a bunch of both squares and rounds as well as Tiis. I like them all for what they offer. The tan car (nevada) is a Tii clone and makes about 135 hp. The others make about 115 hp. Get them out on a twisty road and they will give a like year 911 a run for their money - up to a point. The navada 2002 is two toned. The po started a repaint and I never got around to completing it. The wheels are Revolution wheels made in the U.K.. Nice stuff. Very classic and some 911 drivers use them. Here's a shot from a couple of summers ago.

Is that a Jenson in the back?

arcsine 01-30-2007 02:31 PM

It is the USS San Francisco.

"On May 9, 2005, the Navy announced the completion of the investigation into the accident. The report states that "The findings of fact show that SAN FRANCISCO, while transiting at flank (maximum) speed and submerged to 525 feet, hit a seamount that did not appear on the chart being used for navigation," and that "Other charts in SAN FRANCISCO’s possession did, however, clearly display a navigation hazard in the vicinity of the grounding. SAN FRANCISCO’s navigation team failed to review those charts adequately and transfer pertinent data to the chart being used for navigation, as relevant directives and the ship’s own procedures required." The report continues "If SAN FRANCISCO’s leaders and watch teams had complied with requisite procedures and exercised prudent navigation practices, the grounding would most likely have been avoided. Even if not wholly avoided, however, the grounding would not have been as severe and loss of life may have been prevented."

Evidently it was repaired

It seems counterintuitive to me, but I'll ask... Was there ever an M of one of these that would have included an automatic trans?

I ask because I saw a bimmer almost exactly like this at the post office yesterday. It had ///M badges, but it also had an automatic.

Sorry if it's a stupid question. BMW is just outside of my general knowledge.

Adding ///M badges to any BMW (and other cars for that matter) is pretty common. It's the euro version of "VTEC" stuck to every japanese car that has a wing. Automatics are somewhat rare, but hardly a sporting upgrade, and certainly not on an M car before recent times.

No. There was never a 2002 "M". The Tii was certainly a precursor to the M cars as it was a hot rodded 2002. For a few extra $$ you got mechanical fuel injection (about 20 extra hp), bigger brakes, beefier suspension including stronger trailing arms, a clock, among other things. The first "M" car was a 5 series. Not sure of the year but in the 80s. Designated the M535i. The M5 was/is the states version and the early ones (88) had a LOT of HP. The new ones have a lot and then some.

Correct-a P1800ES. Slower than molasses and the antithesis to a 2002. Cramped cabin, poor outward visability, laughable ergonomics, etc. They have a funky appeal, however.

I'm guessing he's a porn producer, nudie bar frequenter, about my age, has a collection of BMX bikes from the good old days of the 70s & 80s.

Oh and possibly a collection of bodies in the freezer.....;)
