An Apple product was used by Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, in HBO's "Sex and the City." At the end of each episode, newspaper columnist Carrie would sit pensively at her laptop next to her bedroom window and type out the theme of her latest essay, with the Apple icon prominently displayed.

On older episodes of the show "24," "good guy" characters used Apple products while the "bad guys" used Windows and non-branded PCs. This year, many of the good guys use Hewlett-Packard gear.

"Apple is the brand of people who are creative," said Lucian James, president of Agenda Inc., a brand consulting firm. "Where they are using Apple is sort of suggesting artistic-ness."

When I notice a computer of some sort in a movie or TV show, it seems like at least 75% of the time it's an Apple/Mac of some sort. Even when they don't show the hardware, but they show the desktop, it's almost always fruity. I think Apple/Mac must spend a fortune getting their stuff into movies and TV shows for advertising. Thinking that it's just a fluke that the people making the movies are putting them there electively seems silly if that's what the above article is saying.

location, location, location. as true for product placement as for real estate.

craigster59 02-02-2007 01:14 PM

There's alot of "product placement" done on movies and television, even more so with the popularity of Tivo. They do spend a few bucks to get their products seen, also the shows don't always have to return the product when they're finished and the majority of the studio people use Mac. What better way to get a couple of free computers.
