Now, I am all in favor of making cars more efficient. As a matter of fact, when it comes to things like nutrition, health, etc., I am far closer to "new age" than most would admit. But something about the Tesla bothers me, and I think it centers around this question:

How does it sound?

I can't imagine this car, or any car that lacks an internal combustion engine, sounding that good... and isn't that a pretty sizeable portion of the enjoyment we get out of cars? When I bought my 951, one of my first thoughts was "yeah, it's basically a rocketship with wheels - but it's a bit too quiet, isn't it?" - and even the 951, as quiet as it is, sounds pretty good.

Granted, I haven't driven the Tesla, so I really can't pass judgement. But to me, an environmentally-minded liberal, a sports car that lacks an internal combustion engine also lacks a soul. No V8-rumble, no Porsche mechanical clatter, no Ferrari howl.

Hmm..wonder if they'd sell me a few for a jet pack...

Accurate Automation Corporation has developed a high performance, low-cost turbojet engine for use in UAVs, air-launched missiles, targets, and decoys. The engine, designated the AT-1500 has been developed under the Navy's Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program.. This low cost engine is specifically designed for long storage life and zero-maintenance. The engine is 15" long, 8.6" maximum diameter, weighs 19-lbf (installed) and produces 150-lbf of thrust at sea level, static conditions.

OK, I have to admit I've said in the past,"oh great, another stupid bicycle post", but now i'm gonig to be a hypocrit and post one myself.
I just bought this bike last week, it really makes sense.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1177001311.jpg

I got tired of the whole "mountain bike and racer poser" thing, and since I only ride on the santa ana river trail with my kids, this bike is logical. Adjustable spring forks, sprung seat post, adjustable gooseneck, totally comfortable to cruise. It's aluminum and the components are of reasonable quality, well worth the nearly $300 I paid.

URY914 04-19-2007 09:06 AM

Nice bike. Your next one will have three wheels.

The bikes you buy are like the cars buy. They evolve thru your life.

I have to agree with you sammy...
Cracks me up when someone posts here looking for "a bike to ride with the kids in the park on weekends" and guys imediatly start recomending $5000 bikes. :D

Not that there is anything wrong with that ;)

Don't get me wrong I can appricaiate all that hi tech titanium and carbon fiber on those expensive bikes but I am about as likely to need one as a CGT or Hayabusa.
