YES!! Never assume a hospital's MRI is not "at field". 1.5Tesla systems are roughly 15,000 times the gravitational pull of the earth. Older magnets are not shielded and the field can be felt as far away as 10 feet. Newer ones are shielded but the that means no real warning. Once the magnet gets a hold of something, it's going to keep it! When that happens, it's usually over before you know it. I was once working a system and had to screw in about 50 screws on raceway covers under the floor. I thought I would be slick and took a small screw gun into the room. It was my system and was alway VERY careful using ferrous materials. I was almost finished and was standing at the rear of the magnet. Much in the same area as the bottle pic I posted. I heard a bang and thought "What the hell was that?" I then realized I was no longer holding my screw gun! It pulled it into the bore! We were lucky and I was able remove it without ramping down the magnet. The ramping up or down process is an all day affair and requires special power supplies/cables etc. NOT something we want to do unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
randomness resumed....
