Why would you fiberglass the outside?
Why not a more traditional finish, like lacquer or rubbed linseed or tung oil?

Fiberglass over a nice wood canoe? That's like putting aluminum siding on a first growth redwood house....

he tells me the fiberglass cloth will be transparent after cured and designed for boats like this to show the wood underneath. it's needed for strength. louisiana swamps and bayous have cypress knees everywhere but the middle and it wouldn't last long without it. some knees stick out the water, many are just below the surface. with a wood bateau or pirogue, you can replace scraped, gouged and busted bottoms. doubt you could easily repair this type of canoe with the thin tongue and groove glued strips. with my luck, I'd have a size 12 hole in the bottom first time I stepped in it.

Fiberglass cloth saturated with epoxy resin is transparent and very strong. Most hand made canoes and kayaks are finished this way. Makes for a strong boat while showing off the natural beauty of the wood.

I don't care what anybody says....That is one beautiful piece of work! Might be a bit tippy, but might also just be the angle of the pic. I would think if you go thru all that hard work you would have had the design down first. I say good job!!!
