Something like this Buick would be fun to have around . Not now, but maybe later on in life for something to do .

That's pretty cool. Soft top would be a no go for me, but would be quite the ride for only 7k.

The oldest I have is a 54 ford f100. Kinda cheating as I upgrade the steering to yoda parts, and am running a sbc 400 now.

I have a 1947 (basically the same as a 1939) Dodge truck. It’s fun to drive around in. I’d have that Buick for $7500 in a heartbeat.

My cousin's husband is deep into cars like that Buick. Has somewhere around 10, probably more. Most true barn finds which seems crazy to me.

Oldest "car" I ever had was a '63 VW Crew cab pick-up I bought for $275 in 1987. Miss that amazing old truck. Loved it.

Fourties seems to be the cutoff unless you want to go modern drivetrain / suspension. There are some guys in town getting out the model Ts when there is a parade or historic event. It is not my cup of tea. These really old cars are too close to a horse and carriage for me and you can't drive them in normal flow of traffic, you are a road block.

I'd be more interested in an early MC. Takes less space to store and are more reasonable to ride, IMHO. I recall seeing a bunch of crazy guys cross the salt lakes on 80 in UT on vintage bikes from the 30s (?). This was in 2012 or so. They were on a cross-US tour. A lot of them were blowing smoke and not looking so great, but it looked like these nutcases were enjoying the experience. They were going west, so by UT they had seen thousands of miles.

Had a 32 Packard Light 8 sedan. Ended up selling it, as we never drove it much. My dad got it in 62' from the original owner and drove it for a while until the radiator plugged up. Then pulled the radiator, had it re-cored and put the radiator in the back see and put the car in the warehouse we owned. It sat there for over 15 years. When I got married, I redid the paint and chrome to use it as our wedding car. Sign on the back could have said "Wet paint" instead of "Just Married"! drove it around like it was till the motor got a stuck valve and was tired. Had the body pulled and the whole chassis rebuilt by a Packard specialist. After that we hardly ever drove it and just got tired of it sitting around, and taking up space. Sold it for a loss as no one wants cars of this age, and you can't really use them like a car. Its more like a large golf cart, and just how many parades can you do. I don't miss it at all. Now the oldest I have is my 1980 Unimog, and the 84' and 85' Mercedes W123's.

That is a beautiful car, Fred. The reality is that they are uncomfortable to drive on modern roads and with traffic.

I used to drive old trucks with a friend of mine who owns Stovebolt, site that specializes in old Chevy/GMC trucks (https://www.stovebolt.com/office/).

It was fun for a bit, but the passion never hit.

About seven years ago we were doing some initial testing of a tactical UAV at Delamar Dry Lake in Nevada, Route 93 to Alamo, NV.

I did an advanced site survey to make sure we knew where to stay, food availability, etc.

I drove Rte 93 to Crystal Springs then to Caliente. This area of Nevada is very beautiful but very remote. On the way to Caliente, I passed no fewer than 20 Model T's and other really old cars...I can't remember what the tour was called, but there they were, chugging along in the middle of nowhere.

I thought it was cool.

From what I've seen, some of the guys/gals having the most fun with their old cars are the ones with Model A's. There used to be a gathering here in OC @March or so and there were easily 300+ cars in attendance, from all over the country too.

"Old" is a hard to define term. When I was a kid anyone that was 30 was OLD! Now for some reason old it over 80.

My first car was a 1960 VW bug. But it was only 10 years old at the time. My 1985 911 is my oldest car now. I bought it when it was just 10 years old.

Now to me an OLD car is something before 1920.

Agreed. I used to attend the Pancake Breakfast with the Model A guys in Orange and the turnout was amazing. I toured the Lakes District with my Dad and Brother with the UK Model A club and it was such fun bounding down tiny single track lanes. Great fun. My Dad's As will do 50mph on minor roads but any more is scary.

I think the model A guys have fun because they’re not afraid to drive them. I was riding an abandoned road north of LA called ridge route when I met a pack of guys in model As. Most people wouldn’t take an ATV up that road. But there they were.

We were just happening to drive near a local street that is also R-66 through town. A string of Model As, and other foreign cars were driving along in an caravan. There were old British and a few old Mercedes that I could see. Lots of Model A versions.

The next day I saw a news story about the group on a cross county journey on Rt-66 and the spent the night in Oklahoma City.

I bought my 1960 VW in ‘67 and compared to a ‘67 VW it was already old then. I think of old cars as anything without air conditioning.
