The bead & boob deal is always happening, trust me.

if you make it to Acme Oyster House, ask Hollywood if you can see the photo album he keeps out of sight. it's a Polaroid version of Girls Gone Wild taken in the bar there. Hollywood took a liking to me . I sat there eating oysters free all day several times. He said as long as I'm shucking and sitting them in front of you, keep eating. Must have been all the jokes we were telling. You might check out the Civil War Museum also

Absolutamente! Boobs are flashin' on Bourbon street every night of the week.

Look for a kid in a big '70s black Chrysler taxi from the airport. "Want to hear some music?" "Sure!" AC/DC at 110 dBs...

Many good tips already in the previous posts. How about a hole-in-the-wall bar, "The Dungeon"... I think it was down a back alley near Pat Os. Looked like a cave inside, I remember dancing upstairs with a girl in a nice skirt and... white bra.

And if you're staying in the Best Western on Bourbon St (~$400 near Mardi Gras, w/ balcony of course), and for some crazy reason you can't get into your room late at night because the room occupants are so "deboned" (so inebriated as to appear to have no skeletal structure to hold one up) that they don't hear you banging (scratching?) on the door - there is a nice utility closet you can sleep in, according to my brother :D . And yes, beads are goooood. Nawlins almost makes Mexico look sane!

I don't think The Dungeon opens 'til midnight but you'll still be up.

ok fellas. we leave on Friday. we already have friday mapped out. check in at Radisson on Canal then go to oyster bar! watch the "oystercam" from ACME and you will see us there around 3 til we get sick of oysters and beer. Next just hang out somewhere til exhausted and hope to throw in "Mother's" at some point. Saturday is breakfast, voodoo walking tour etc. Afternoon = D-day museum for me and some spa (or shop, or nap or whatever chick thing) for her. Sat night go to a place called Tipitina's for a benefit concert that has lots of folks playing including Dr. John, Buddy Guy, Nevilles, Rebirth Brass Band etc etc. Sunday, flying home early to make it to the Browns weekly drubbing. I truly can't wait. Thanks again for all the help.

Perfect! You will have a blast. Dr. John and the Neville Bros. at Tipitina's? Wish I was going. Have fun.

Me too!!! I'm so jealous...have great time & be safe!

You have to do a carriage ride and along the way...stop at this "pirate bar" for a hurricane. (the waitress came right outside and took our order...but I warn you..they are strong...it was only 2pm and we were laughing about anything and everything for the rest of the day). :)

joehahn 11-25-2003 10:39 AM

..so you guys were right. it was unbelievable. have not drank that much since college. total insanity. too much activity and too many stops for me to even list! (also, have not walked that much in YEARS). attached find pic of us outside Tipitina's and one later during our third trip to ACME. You guys were right, hollywood is a dude! thanks again, joe.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1069785536.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1069785555.jpg

surflvr911sc 11-25-2003 11:04 AM

Very cool! Glad you guys had a great trip, I'm sure you will be back.

joehahn 11-25-2003 11:45 AM

ok, so now I'm all pumped about it so here it is: arrive go to straight to ACME. from there walk up and down bourbon listening to great music! stayed at a place called Fat Cats for a while listening to real old guys playing jazz/blues ("hold that tiger, hold that tiger") it was great. ate at one of those balcony restaurants overlooking bourbon. drank and drank and drank. wife ended up dancing on stage at one of those loud cheesball dance clubs. ended up back at ACME.

Saturday, walked to Cafe Dumonde. you guys are right, those donut things are awesome. Walked all through the french market area. she went back to hotel and i went to D-Day museum. That was incredible. That is a "must see" if anyone goes to NOLA. then did streetcar ride all the way to the end of the line. that was kinda boring because there were several wrecks on the track so we would just sit literally for 40-50 mins til it would be moved (truth be told, i slept for a lot of the ride). got to end and took cab back to bourbon, watched college football at one of the bars, back to ACME and then in cab to titpitinas for concert. (see pic attached, that was our view...amazing). less than 48 hours we are back in snowy cleveland....like it never even happened.

That's your story and you're stickin' to it!

Did you happen to see a bar that had the lower half of a female manequin on a swing going in and out over the doorway? To the east of Houlihan's? Opposite side of the street?

Me neither.:D

Check!

joehahn 11-25-2003 12:34 PM

DON, THAT IS A RIOT!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU BROUGHT THAT UP! that is the very first strip club my wife has ever been to! i convinced her that we should "check it out". of course i want to go to the "no cover" place and believe me, you get what you pay for, the chicks were FOUL (stretchmmarks, flabby, etc). thankfully you can walk anywhere with your beer. we took our "2 drink minimum" of 2 ambitas ($14) and walked right out the door. we never made it back into any of the other strip clubs.

one funny side note: when we were first started talking about going to strip club she said "lets try that one". it was the transvestite one! i said absolutely not, those are guys! she didn't believe me, we walk closer and each of these guys had bigger muscles than me (not saying much...but man they were freaky!). we did not go in that one!

DonDavis 11-25-2003 12:43 PM

Yup! I was in NOLA with buddies and one says "Yo! Lets go to that place!" I looked over and said "Uh, those are DUDES ! Then we went into the other place and dropped a few ones.

Good times!

Allegedly

joehahn 11-25-2003 12:56 PM

not to highjack my own post but yes...lynn, d-day museum was touching. particularly if you have read any of steve ambrose's books. i have read them all and think that "band of brothers" is an easier read than "D-Day" but if you really want to know what d-day was like then force yourself through the book and then visit the museum. (allright, i'll admit it, when i got up close to the landing craft...the one with the ramp...and thought about all those guys running off getting killed instantly i did get choked up). i still watch this film from vets day post daily: http://www.gcsdistributing.com/WeSupportU.htm

i am such a softy.

I had to bring this one back to life. I saw the Neville Bros. last night in concert here in CA. They were simply terrible and I walked out on a hundred bucks worth of tickets (2). Fortunately, the opening act of a Cajun band was really great.

I have seen Dr. John a few times and love every miniute of his show, no matter what it is and have several of his old vinyls.

I think Aaron Neville has lost his voice, acts like a jerk on stage and plays music that sounds like a marriage between Marvin Gaye on steroids and some kind of disco-soul. It doesn't work and they off-key stuuf is not pleasing, creative or not. Oh, and at way too big volume. I wasn't the only one walking out.

joehahn 02-19-2005 10:47 AM

Zeke: agreed. Paid a LOT to see Nevilles and Big Head Todd and the Monsters last summer...Nevilles were terrible. Couldn't understand/hear Aaron. BHT was great though.
