Hilarious! I'd hate to see what might happen to me if I danced to "A Town Called Malice."

Oh yeah, no one liked English Beat or The Clash?

cstreit 01-16-2004 08:44 PM

Okay, the Clash rocks

THe three bands I listened two when I couldn't decide on ANY music even after staring at the CD's for 20 minutes are:

1. Fugazi
2. The Clash
3. Depress, er, Depeche Mode

Sonic dB 01-16-2004 08:48 PM

Hall and Oats....dont laugh...in their hey day, they were the best pop writers since Lennon and McCartney.

Overpaid Slacker 01-16-2004 08:48 PM

Holy crap how did I forget the Mode? Now I'll be up all night listening to "old" music.

Thanks, ya bastards.

EDIT -- just stumbled across the Violent Femmes and The Hooters... saw The Hooters live at CW Post in 1987. I'm getting NO sleep tonight. Hope The History Channel's got something good on 'til I get tired.

My high school was hardcore punk.

Sex Pistols, PIL, Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains were the bands of choice.

Movie scouts once raided our drama dept. for X-tras for some movie called "Repo Man." Needed skinheads and the like. "Preppies" need not apply.

So...

If you mentioned Depeche Mode around those guys, you ended up with a super atomic wedgie or something.

So...

Those who knew better became closet Depeche Mode lovers. They were cool though the lead singer was ugly.

Here's some more:

very early Midnight Oil - the Aussies rocked back then. Dyvinyls too (wonder if you guys heard of them). They had the Aussie version of Chrissie Hynde (sp?)

Speaking of which...um...The Pretenders. (nothing is like "Mystery Achievement.")

dd74 01-16-2004 09:02 PM

The Femmes rocked - their first album was pure art even if they didn't know how to play their instruments. :D

Beastie Boys -- an '80s band w/ more staying power than most of the rest.

Anyone remember Yello (of Oh Yeah/Ferris Bueller fame)? I forgot I've got all their stuff mp3'd. The playlist keeps growing. I'm opening another bottle of Maker's Mark right now.

Pass me 'da Mark, man...

Once I got super sick off Jaegermeister shots and Guiness. I think that was during a Billy Idol concert at The Palace on Vine near Hollywood Blvd. I was as drunk as Billy was stoned...

Ah, the memories.

P.S. Culture Club was unmentionable in my neck of the woods. :D

UconnTim97 01-16-2004 09:30 PM

how about REM, Living Colour,

nostatic 01-16-2004 10:00 PM

I was just about to say Living Color. I saw them at the Palladium (with Fishbone) and at Universal Amphitheater (with Primus).

Saw the Pretenders tour in support of their first album at Golden Hall in Fun Diego. Chrissie rocked.

Police, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads

How about one-hit wonders? Nightranger. Chris DeBurgh, Wang Chung, Faith No More, ...

UconnTim97 01-16-2004 10:04 PM

I judst saw fishbone last month in Philly

dd74 01-16-2004 10:09 PM

Yeah, one-hitters, like that dude who sang "I wear my sunglasses at night..."

LOL! Anyone remember him?

nostatic 01-16-2004 10:16 PM

or "future's so bright, I gotta wear shades..."

That was Timbuk 3. Sunglasses at night was Corey Heart.
