One side: It has enormous power and that's why it's best. It will kick the butt of all the fine european poser cars. HAH got you snobs!

Other side: It lacks style and class and it's modified....RICE!

ANYTHING can be made to go fast. I have a magazine article on an Opel Corsa A with twin engines of each 400hp. 0-62 mph in 2,8 secs.

I know of someone who has a 1042HP "street" Dodge Challenger. Very fast....in a straight line.

Hopefully some "snob" will take his Carrera GT to RS Tuning one day. When finished that car will kick the butt of your Skylines HAH!

A Skyline GT-R is not a "street racer" It was the car that held the fastest lap time on the ring only topped recently by the Porsche GT2. I think some of you are confusing this car with a blinged out civic on NOS. Anyone who dismisses this car as a "Ricer" is an igorant fool.
You dont have to like the styling but it deserves respect.

Just not my cup of tea. Impressive, yes. My personal thing, no.

have you guys ever picked up a "tuner" magazine. not my flavor, but i gotta admit some of these guys, especially the tuners from japan dump serious cash (100k) into their cars. i cant identify the cars, and the fact that they do major changes to the roofline doesnt help. i was in ahem.. my friend's reading room (dropping the kids off at the pool) and he had a stack of these magazines. i was blown away by the magnitude of spending. and performance... i still love my slow ass 75 911 tho...if i had that kinda money, i would tub out restore my car into a retro looking sleeper.

While having a heavy bias for Jap Crap, I seriously doubt if this thing is gonna dust a similarly modded 930.

My 3.3T/SC is slightly modded with a power to weight ratio less than 6.5:1. A heavily modded 930 is deep into superbike range.

This debate started over whether or not a stock Skyline would last a 24 race flat out vs a 930, the 930 has a dry sump race engine design with a high flow rate oil system the Skyline does not, any long high speed sweeper turns will cause oil starvation in the Skyline after awhile.

The Skyline has 270hp stock and it can make 400 with mods so what? So can a TT Supra or any other Turbo ricer such as a WRX and so forth, again the debate was not who can do the 1/4 the fastest but will the car last flat out for 24 hrs, that separates the BS.

And no I don't even bother with ricers very often in my Ferrari, some
act like flys buzzing around trying to antagonze me into a race, the few
I have usually have been following me while I am driving fast off exit ramps and they are quickly gone.

Hi all-

I've read all the posts here with some interest.

Some of you claim the GT-R is rice. Some of you don't.

I've owned one for quite a while. Over a decade, in fact.

The GT-R was inspired by the Porsche 959.

It should be somewhat apparent if you look closely at the specs. Computer controlled variable AWD. twin turbo, coupe. It was designed to be a homolgation special- and true to form, it used a lot of standard issue Nissan parts in addition to some special bits and pieces. Like the 959, it was designed... right. There are a lot of elements that were properly engineered.

It's not an all conquering car. I don't think there is such a beast. It's not designed to appeal to everyone- no car car can do that.

For what it was designed for, it did pretty well. Overall wins at Bathurst, Spa, Group A worldwide. That's a pretty good resume.

My personal car has some parts on it you may recognise... Ohlins T44 dampners, Brembo F50/Lotus calipers with Pagid pads, BBS LM wheels, Garrett turbine, STACK data dash. The engine internals are from the States- JE pistons, Carillo rods, Crower crank.

This engine was rated, at the K&N facilities, at over 660whp and over 580ft/lbs wheel torque. In the initial shakedown runs we ran the 1/4 mile at 11.1@129mph, and 11.3@131mph on P-Zero Rossos. And this is a circuit car, not a drag car! Not bad for a car with only 2.6l of displacement, retains full interior, AC, and a custom welded rollcage.

Cars have more in common with each other than most people would like to admit to.

For what it's worth I also own and drive a 2003 SL and a 1966 E Type. I like all cars that are cool...

I think it's hilarious that people are this unaccepting of the damn car. It's a nice car. It has serious power. It handles well, and lends itself to cheap tuning. It's probably a lot more reliable than Porsches.

But it's rice. Why is it rice? because people tune it. Not that we have pages and pages devoted to

"Should I polish my paddles?"
"Should I take off my rocker panels?"
"Should I drill my airbox for that genuine racecar sound?"
"Should I go with chrome trim or black? Which looks more mean?"

I would go on, but I think (hope) you get the point. I like Porsches as much as anyone, and more so than most, but more than anything, I like cars.

It's nice to see everybody in here other than our resident snob jryerson giving credit where credit is due. I never said you had to like the car, but IMHO it demands respect, it truly is the pride of the japanese sports car market. GT-R Power, nice car (I see you have an RB Motoring sticker, good stuff:) )

Drifting is very close to ice skating in its conception. You aren't awarded for the sickest tricks and the craziest burnouts, but the style and technique which you put into every trick. It takes many many years to become an accomplished drifter, it isn't like driving around a racetrack where once you learn the line and the limits of your car you hit a plateau.

Not true.

A dry sump is one way to combat that problem.

Installing a swinging pickup is another way.

Using a properly baffled pan with an Accusump is yet another way.

There are many ways to skin a cat.

For what it's worth the Group A GT-Rs did not need a dry sump to win- so your statement is false.

I guess a win at the Spa 24 doesn't count in your books then.

My car makes 580ft/lbs torque at 5000rpm. It makes over 500ft/lbs torque from 4500rpm-8700rpm- at the wheels. Those are major numbers in any book and simply not possible in a "bolt on" Supra or Ferrari 328. It does require some engineering skill...

Thats a great car Nick! I know most of us (I hope) know that the GTR is not just another modified car (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) ). It was originally developed for racing and did the job well - better than well!

I'd pick the porsche everytime, but d@mn, whenever I see those things I get tempted get a GTR as well!

Wheels, tires, induction and exhaust, maybe a nice Momo wheel and Recaros? The reason I ask, is we all know that none of us would make suck dreadful additions to our cars. :rolleyes: Somehow I don't think the lightweight BBS wheels on Nick's car are for the bling factor. I keep waiting for the "ha ha, I really had you guys going" in your poorly written and mis-informed posts, but I have the feeling I may be waiting for a while. While your 77 930 and Ferrari 328 may very well be nice cars, don't pretend they're something they're not, for the price of my wife's 4Runner I could have purchased a nice example of either.
