Well, I completed my first round. I played bad, very bad! The rust literally fell outta my armpits, Ouch!!! Anyway, I have a 11:30 tee tomorrow and I promise better results:)

In the bag

Nike 350cc driver 47" Penley XXX stealth 70 shaft
Nike 3 wood X stiff steel shaft
Yonex tour forged 1-pw
Nike 56 Degree wedge
Nike 60 Degree wedge (head only) do the math:)
Scotty C malibu putter

Better do atleast 10 strokes less tomorrow or it's gonna be a bad year! Going back to steel on the driver too. F'ing ebayer hasn't sent my new Hogans yet either:( Bad omens so far. This game is so love/hate!

I have the ugliest golf swing imaginable. I took lessons when I first started, but got feed up with the pretentious little prick that was giving them. So, I focused on my divots rather than my swing & the result is pretty ball flight, ugly swing. I hit a draw, but can cut the ball. I used to play five day's a week, but now that I have a family & a 911, I play once a month.

I love all my clubs & can't justify buying new ones, except for maybe a driver. I have an old set of Top Flite Tour Irons LW-4 , an old 23degree Olimar, a 15degree Steelhead a 10degree ECR knock off, an extra 64degree lob that I've ground most of the bounce off & piled lead on the back to replace the lost wieght. The most important club in my bag is my copper Ping Pal 6. I play the softest balls I can buy for a reasonable price, like the pro V irregulars ($30.00 a box).

We have some awesome golf courses around here, espiecally on the peninsula, so when I play, I hit the upper scale courses during the week on either the earlybird or twilight specials. IMHO weekend golf sucks, I refuse to subject myself to 6 hour rounds any longer.

Edit: BTW I play all steel shafts, so it's hard to find a good driver that I like.

I know exactly what you're saying Len ..... hope to get out within the next week or so! I've been golfing for 15 years (usually 2 or 3 times a year). Started taking it seriously last year and golfed at least 2-3 per week. Took a 30 minute lesson at the start of the season and immediately went from shooting around 95-105 to shooting 85-90. This year I hope to #1 - be around 80-84 consistently and #2 - shoot a 9-hole round in the 30's!!

Callaway C4 carbon 10deg driver
Callaway Warbird Titanium 12deg 3-wood with Apollo graphite shaft
Adams Tight Lies 5-wood
King Cobra SS Irons
Odessy-style putter (with a weird left hand down open-stance putting stroke I invented for myself that works phenomenally well - I'm left-handed but golf right-handed)

My favorite clubs:

the Alien 2!!! One of those TV infomercial-type clubs - but it actually works when trying to get the ball out of the crap!

Wilson "Chipper" - 20+ years old and probably worth about $2 at a garage sale, but I love this club around the green!!!

I know! I'll take the 911 to the course! (Clubs DO fit, by the way!)

Where to put the clubs? I usually 86 the passenger and stand them up in front of the seat. Is there another option?

Schrup 03-26-2004 06:09 PM

Now that I've installed a roll bar & a strut brace, the only place I can put my clubs is in the front seat.

Moses 03-26-2004 06:12 PM

Passenger seat far forward. The clubs in back. Cramped for the passenger? Who cares? I'm drivin'!

Man, it's cold up there! :)

lendaddy 03-28-2004 06:34 AM

"XXX? WTF is your swing speed?"

It's up there:) I am actually trying to tone it down this year. I shot 8 strokes better on Saturday. We're getting there, but still rusty.

Oh, got my first Eagle already!!!!!! 560 yard par 5! Coul be the first good oman of the year.

Moneyguy1 03-28-2004 11:31 AM

Terrible thing happened tome about 20 years ago. I used to belong to two leagues, had an at least reasonable handicap, and one year, still do not know why, I put the clubs away and finally, when I moved to Tucson from upstate NY, gave them away. (a bit dusty, but a leather bag and cart were included).

For the life of me, I do not understand why a fascination such as this goes away..........

Schrup 03-28-2004 12:38 PM

That is sad Bob, do you ever watch it on TV? I know that usually gives me the itch. Perhaps the desire to play will return someday, giving your equipment away is no big deal, it's obsolete after a few years anyway. The Players Championship is on today, it is my favorite. Sawgrass is the only course that's worth $300 to play IMHO.

JC930 03-28-2004 12:42 PM

still to cold here, but I did put a new windshield on the golf cart.
In the bag;
taylor made 540 on stiff
" " 360 on stiff
big bertha steel head on stiff (I can't decide which driver to hit yet)
x12 and x14 irons on graphite
ping zing2 putter
and the best club in the bag that has done the most to lower my score would be my 64 degree lob wedge.

Moneyguy1 03-28-2004 08:03 PM

Watching golf on TV is, to quote George Carlin, "As exciting as watching flies (you fill in the missing four letter word)".

I really just lost all interest in it, looking at it now as simply a game in which two balls are involved. One is 7,952 miles in diameter, the other less than an inch and a half in diameter. The object of the game is to hit the little one while not hitting the big one.

And to think I hit in the high to mid eighties.........Yeah, for 18 holes, you bunch of wiseguys!!!!!!!!<G>

JC930 03-30-2004 08:32 AM

Amac -
How so you like that erc fusion driver? I think I need one.

Amac 03-30-2004 09:02 AM

JC930,
Was hitting a ERC-2, the fusion seems more solid.
At this point I'm crushing the ball out in box, you may
want to go with a higher loft this club is long.
You need one!!!

JC930 07-12-2004 02:50 PM

Decided on the new r7 quad taylor made. It does work.
Shot 2 over first round with it.

nostatic 07-12-2004 02:55 PM

egad...all this expensive hardware. I feel like a luddite. I have a set of Titleist DCI irons (the first run) w/s300 stiff steel shafts. Have a 1,2 and 3 Wilson persimmon woods (yes, wood woods...hehe he said wood) from the 60s. Unfortuantley I haven't swung them in a long time. In grad school we played once a week...$3.50 a round at Brookside (Rose Bowl course). Back then I could break 80...ahh, the old daze...

I'm amazed that so many people have that much time on their hands. I'll admit that golf looks pretty boring to me and I have no interest. Hell at one time my wife was director of sales for Cobblestone Golf Group and offered me free pro time and unlimited access - never took her up on it. It's just such a time/money demanding "hobby" I could never justify it over spending time with my kids on the weekends - but then I work all day on the weekdays so perhaps you all have a different setup?
