Found it!
Great page on the Gatling with video footage. Listen to that brapping howl.....turn your sound up along with the sub-woofer. http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_052a.html

Another SintMaarten Photo.
No where else in the world would anyone be allowed to get this close underneath an approach. In the 747, in landing config, and at ref approach speeds, the main gear hang 70 feet below the pilot's eye level. I don't know that I would stand exactly under one on this short a final. |

That's it. I'm going to St. Maarten. And not b/c of that particular broad in the photo.
I can't view the freaking video at work, but I'll check it out when I get home. Thanks Rick! JP

JP, I think the story you heard was probably accurate: a common checklist item for penetrating icing conditions is to turn the ignition on continuous- helps prevent a flameout if you ingest a big slug of water/ice/hail. I bet all kinds of nasty stuff spew out of the gun.
On the recoil, an A-7 driver I know told me that when they would fire the gun they had to use a little yaw to counteract the recoil, otherwise you would "John Wayne" the bullets into the target. I bet the same thing happens with the A-10 even though the gun is on-axis. Yeah, "totally awesome." A living tribute to Jeff Spicoli. Some shnook busted the board's quota for the use of the word "makeweight" so Wayne's software blocked it. Speaking of our Alma Mater, there are a good half-dozen pages in "Law Quadrangle Notes" describing Jeffrey Fisher, '97 and what a stud he is, arguing a case in front of the Supremes. Also an article from Rich "Whammo" Friedman basically fawning all over the guy and what a super-terrific brief he wrote about the right of confrontation, Fisher saying how smart he was, etc. Do you remember this dude, used to live across the hall from me, next to the dude from Ghana that took, like 5 cold showers a day? Sometimes I miss the law but when I read "Law Quadrangle Notes" I cringe at the extent to which their self-masturbatory hubris exceeds even my own.

John -
LOL. The ol' "makeweight" filter ... those bastards. Oop! I've said it again! Now I'm on double secret probation. LQN goes right in the round file as does every single solicitation for a donation to underwrite their racist cause. Michigan's affirmative action antics are a severe embarassment to me and I want nothing more to do with the institution. Well, except the annual trip for a home football game -- Go Blue! JP

Isn't it funny how we all remember the guys in the dorms not by name, but by habits (good and bad, weird and adopted), and sometimes by the skanks that came and went, so to speak?
I was LMAO when you described the guy down the hall. Edit; I don't know if that is the name of the bay in Sint Maarten. We always stayed on the Dutch side, the French side was really dangerous to go out at night. They had a different view about the poor Frenchmen that had to earn a meal ripping off the tourists at gunpoint for a living. Funny thing, the Dutch had a law and order regime in place. No crime on that side of the island. The only other place I have ever seen such a dichotomy was Singapore. No crime. Hangings every Friday at Changi Prison. Time from arrest to swinging from a rope? 2 weeks tops. 300 feet across the straits was Malaysia. Rampant crime. Plan on getting mugged or worse. Islamic justice, but no police to speak of.

That Antonov AN-225 is huge.
Did any of you guys see that Discovery Channel series on how the Russians were restoring one (most sat idle since the early '90s)? It was amazing. I saw one in person once at our BiCentennial Airshow in 1988. I couldn't believe the sheer size of the damn thing.

F4s are just mean looking! Love 'em.
The Concord is such a beautiful plane, though. Between that and the DeHavilland Comet, it's a shame aircraft design has gone towards utility to the exclusion of any style..
