The Manta Ray is no joke. One of the hardest impacts I have ever had on the water, second only to getting thrown from a waverunner at 50mph. I got the Manta Ray up pretty high, probably about 12-15 feet off of the water. I started to lose the balance, swung like a pendulum a few times, and then was accelerated into the water. The boat was going about 40mph at the time. I had a few nice bruises after that and the wind was knocked out of me slightly.

Garrett,
You're not kidding! They pulled them off the market here after the first year. Very dangerous. Only good for about up to 150Lbs of cargo though, us 200Lbers can't get it up; ha, ha. This kid, Danny is riding behind a Cobalt at about 60MPH and he gets it up about 30'.

Two boat drivers. One steers and controls emergency power down if req'd. One looks back working the throttle to keep the "Kite" up and steady. The kid (Danny) was petrified most days riding it, probably regretted getting good at it? ha.

I still ride the tube with the teenage boys..... some crazy wipe outs that leave you in pain for days!
Cheers

When I rode the Manta Ray I was probably 190lbs. I really had to work the tube and lean way way back, but I finally got it in the air. The 105lb girls we were with though just started floating up into the air immediately while they held onto the tube for dear life.

Couldn't find any good tubing pictures so this one will have to do. I am on the left, and that yellowish house directly over my head is our lake house.

Looking for the tubing pics earlier, I ran across some old offroading pics. Brought back some great memories.

Whatever happened to the Pelican with the Baja Bug that would pull the 4x4's out of the mud?

gprsh924 03-25-2009 11:57 AM

I'm pretty sure his name is Thrown_Hammer. Haven't seen him around for awhile. I know he had that Baja Bug and he also had an Xterra and was a member over on the xterra forum I am on.

Cold Springs Tavern

A great place to stop for a beer. It's a 150+ year old Butterfield Stagae Coach stop.

Suicide Bridge crosses the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena....THAT bridge is Cold Springs Bridge and is quite a feat of engineering....peopel do jump off but not anywhere near the amount that do on other spans. It's way UP in the mountains above SB.
