Nice shots John - really like the Paris pics. There is a heck of a lot to be said for the older technology that proves itself again and again! I learned photography with a 4x5 Speed Graphic way back when and I still remember the fun I had shooting with Tri-X, Plus-X and the wide variety of resolutions/look available to the user from the equally wide variety of small to large grain film available. Sure don't hear much about "grain" nowadays do we?

True.
I have a P&S digital and am thinking about getting a high-end DSLR - that can use my manual Nikon lenses. But I have the most fun with good old wet B&W. Grooving in the darkness with good music over forming images - way more fun than spending yet another chunk of my life in front of the computer. Unfortunately, I'm losing access to the university darkroom with this move, so my B&W is going to be pretty limited until I can find another community darkroom or set one up in the new basement. Maybe time to get that used D1X. |
yes I miss the graet quality for my stolen Leica m3

Pics taken at Atlantis last week.
Notice the huge jew fish in the 1st pic. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0244.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0246.jpg Dinner anyone? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0238.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0239.jpg All pics were taken with a Casio Exlim my favorite pocket camera. We left the D-50 home because we did not want to pack it this time. That casio takes awesome pics for its price. ($260) I can even hold open the lens for night exposure pics, like this: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0293.jpg I could have held the lens open longer for this one. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/CIMG0294.jpg |
Pagani Zonda, Mercedes CLK-GTR and Porsche 959 Sport - not the best shots, but cars worth a few photos. All at the POC event at California speedway on Saturday.

Yellowbird cool pics.
Some pics I took today at work. I am getting together pics for my company website. The crews: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0169.jpg The entire fleet: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0170.jpg Piece of equipment: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0168.jpg Not too sure which one of these next two I like better. Foreground in focus or beckground. I wanted this affect on purpose. These might get a independant thread for opinions: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0177.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0176.jpg Surveying a multi-million dollar home: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0192.jpg Porsche driving by while I was there: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0180.jpg |
Do the background in focus. It lets the viewer know what the theodolite is looking at and illustrates the distance. With the picture focused on the forground, you loose that information. JMHO ...and you might even consider getting a little closer to the surveyor so he is even more out of focus in the forground.
|
Except in this picture, you want to focus on the front sight, not the distant target.
