So glad that Byron got a phone with a better camera (yes, it's been a few years now). The cameras in modern phones are really amazing.

The locals are leaving their posts on the football field light nests.

A sure way to never get asked to pick someone up at the airport again.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ee42bdc6d2.jpg

Asking directions. "Rachui's Garage? Go straight about half a mile and hang a right. It's on the right after the dead tree. Ask for Billy Bob". Hearne, Texas in April of 2012.

Took a drive and walk earlier this week up to the lowest elevation glacier and ice caves in the lower 48, and Hawaii too. It's only 40 miles and an hour away.

Bridge is out and you get warned "NO ACCESS TO ICE CAVES".

I do like a challenge along those lines... 40 yards downstream was a non-forest service approved crossing made of logs, rocks and a few planks that worked great, kept my boots dry even!

Big Four- with 5 bumps
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662310181.jpg

You've been warned
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662310181.JPG

Aha, that's out alright
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662310181.JPG

First view of the biggest cave/glacier. Crazy amount of snow and ice for this time of year- more like an early June snow pack
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662310181.jpg

80degrees or so on the trail- 60 or so in front of the caves.
Ya gotta stay out from directly under or inside unless conditions are just right. They do collapse and rock fall from 2-3 thousand feet up can come tumbling down at any time... unfortunately several peeps have lost their lives exploring and playing too near. I limit my time in the danger zone and always have an escape option it mind.

Some smaller caves farther around the steep cliffs- reminded me of Arches Nation Park in Utah. a good deal chillier

Nothing better than a water bottle refilled by scraping ice off a glacier- cold as you can stand it!

Back packed the Sky Pilot Loop in the Wind River Range in Wyoming about two years ago. After descending the trail from Glimpse Lake to Fremont Creek on a really nasty section of trail that had tons of dead fall and portions of the trail obliterated while crossing scree slopes, we found a wonderful sign looking back at the bridge at the bottom that crossed over the creek.

Nice hike Jolly!
You found my favorite kind of trail!

This part was easy and smelled good too!

The road access to Three Fingers, and a couple other areas is paved quite a ways now, been years since I've been up there- I'll take the truck next time

At some places it was hard to see the trail at all. Fortunately my kids had GPS maps that showed where it was under all the debris.
