Spent a little time at his fishing camp:

Then on the road for Gulf Shores where have a little place. Stumbled across “Cruising the Coast”, a massive hot rod show (but didn’t get any good pics - was just passing thru) and then stayed the night in Mobile:

First stop the next morning - been trying to see the USS Alabama for some time now, finally made it. BTW, 10/10 recommend!

My Dad grew up in Mobile, and I have family there, but I haven't been to Mobile in a few years. I've been to the battleship several times. I remember when the I-10 bridge was built. We used to have to get off the interstate at Spanish Fort and get on Hwy 90 and go across the causeway and through the old Bankhead tunnel. Man, that was many moons ago.

Having grown up in SoCal and spending my summers at the beach here, I really didn’t think I could ever enjoy a Gulf Coast beach. But this place is FANTASTIC!

We live in a suburb of LA - just far enough to get plenty of peace and quiet, but close enough for a day trip - or to spend the night.

The most recent was to see Van Morrison - and he did NOT disappoint!

First stop was the Intercontinental Hotel, an offshoot of Pan Am from back in the day, and LA’s location is part of the Wilshire Grand complex, tallest building west of the Mississippi. And a *****in’ rooftop bar to boot!

The venue - The Orpheum - in DTLA is a 1925 “Gilded Age” vaudeville theater, now restored and an excellent place to catch a band!

So much great music - much of it new - and all of it performed by absolutely world-class musicians.

Got back to the room and noticed I could actually make out the marquis from the venue we’d just attended:

Next morning views:

Last stop was Mass at St Vincent de Paul, also in DTLA and another 1925 gem. Originally built with a donation from Doheny, i’d love to know how much it would cost - and if you could - build it today.

A few historical shots - obviously not mine:

WHAT a gem!

Went to the Sphere in Vegas a few months back to see Dead & Co. It was an outstanding experience to say the least. And so hyper real that the old Deadheads can leave the LSD at home - you’ll be trippin just watching the show….

As some may remember, my Great Grandfather’s hand built toolbox was in one of the warehouses, and after soaking the hinges in oil l, it was finally able to be opened without damaging anything.

So far only pulled a few things out, but it appears to be mostly old bottles.

Obviously, one is a pully, because t what is the other

Very cool Byron!
That last photo is a ceramic insulator used back when power lines were either bare copper or had a woven fabric sheathing that was not very "insulated".
Keep digging, a leather bag of gold coins or nuggets would be at the very bottom
