that second bike is a CZ, made in cechzovakia (spelled wrong im sure), the cooling fins on the cylinder and the tank emblem are a give away. the clincher was his signature block were its says hes got a CZ.
heres a husqvarna (no u after the q), notice the chrome spots on the tank where your knees would hug the tank. that was a husky trade mark until the early 80's. i had one of the last husky's to use that tank design, it was a 1982 wrx (not the suby) 250. it was a woods/endouro bike. i rode that thing until the early 90's, drum brakes and all bultaco is one work,,, my pops used to ride pursang's (sp), that was the name of bultacos motorcross line in the 70's. there your vintage motorcross lesson for today

Great! Thats another reason I like my p-car. I meet more kindred souls. Kinda like the watch thread, it seems like there are p-car owners who also like the old bikes. I used to race these two Husky's (81 250 and 78 390) up until I rebuilt them last year, they are now for sale. I still race the CZ in vintage class. It is a 1973 400. I am getting a little sore from the short travel technology of the CZ (smooth tracks are a blast though) so I primarily focus this year on the maico. My favorite race bike is my 1980 Maico, a marvel of German engineering. Similar to the Porsche, Maico was w-a-a-y ahead its time, having produced a bike that in many ways is still state of the art today (at least conceptually). Here they are! Drool on!

in that 1st montesa shot by static the lower end looks like a bultaco lower, except the kick starter would be on the left.
my 82 husky described above was the woods/enduro version of the red tanked husky above. that one shown (red tanked) was an XC model im pretty sure, desert bike with a very tall 6 speed gear box. or maybe the CR motocross version, tighter 5 speed gearbox. my 82 had this wicked cool purple tear dropped tank like that one. the other 390 shown with black tank was a very popular enduro bike on the district 36 enduro circut i used to race on. my dads friend had that same exact one. bruce, do you remember around the same time husky had a 390, 3 speed automatic dirt bike? another of my pops friends had one of those. not good for steep, long down hills. heres one for the old school guys,,, a DKW. one of my dads friends in the early 70s had one of those and it was crap. he said DKW stood for dam kareless workmanship. or an ossa, a mass of fiberglass. can you tell i spent my youth in motocross and enduro pits. some of my 1st words were motorcycle names.

No pix of me with the car on this laptop (stuck at O'Hare, thunderstorms wreaking havoc on business travel -- again). Here's one from the musician-thing I do -- shot at a gig/free show my band did last summer, pre-game at Qualcomm Stadium for the Padres.
Cheers! C. |
