Should I fix my 69 911S or Buy a 63 356B
Well I tooka look at a 1963 356B S ...Car has a stack of receipts for it's restoration....paint was done right with the windows pulled, new interior, straight body, floor pans replaced but NOT with factory pans, Engine is a 63...but no Kardex.....no apparent rust....Engine compartment is clean..restored.....Car needs a good cleaning as it is very dusty....price is at 16K... Is that a fair price?...at what price should I jump on this car.....
OR...... Should I take the 16K and use it to restore my 69 911S...my car is very orginal and klean for it's age....It needs an overhaul of the engine...mainly....has almost no rust (Door seams only). Then I need to consider who to take the car to restore... BTW: I fully intend to restore my 911S regardless...this only postpones the date......

You should look at the '64 356C I found locally -- second owner, 111K miles, all original sheetmetal... $19K and drive it home.
You can take your time with the 911S. it will likely only grow in value as more and more are shipped out of the country.

Tabs, it's been years and I haven't heard of any progress on the 911...when are you really going to restore it?
I'd go for a 356 in good driving condition over a 911 in need of a resto any day. I ain't getting any younger, and I doubt you are either.

Fix the 69S First. When you have that one sorted and you want to commit funds, start thinking about another project.
Personally, I would start with getting the mechanical side sorted and the car running before worrying about the bodywork.

I have had my 911 for years and years now...I am ashamed to tell U all how many....There isn't any Bodywork to be done really and the paint is still in excellent condition...(windows were pulled and new rubber was put in)
Even the orginal headline in my 911 is still in good condition....except that it's yellowed over time....the passenger seat vinyl is still in great condition even though the padding has detoriated....the drivers vinyl only has one side of the seat bolster replace with a NOn German vinyl (differnt grain)...It needs a new carpet kit and new dash pad (hate the crack...it's where they all do). Engine compartment and trunk would need to be deatiled....I would like to have the suspension, brakes etc checked and refurbished as needed...

Go for it! Do the "S"! Best to have one car running than a couple of projects that are never quite ready.
And then you can wind up a few pelicans on the 911 technical board as well -Isa Don't bother about the interior and bodywork That way I won't feel so bad about the state of mine

Run with what pulls your heart. Don't try to rationalize it. Just do it.
Personally, I've got the hots for a 356 cabriolet. I miss convertibles, and 911 convertibles are not my thing. |

Do the cabs tend to be exponentially more expensive to acquire?

get the 911 going, find a 356 cab replica.

Personally speaking, I would get the 911 to where you want it to be before buying any other cars. I got totally stressed having 5 "projects" around. It started similar to your story. The first one's pretty good but needs some help. I put that on hold to buy the next one which was "very restorable". The next three "just happened". The first one never got finished. I blew an o-ring and sold them all to have the one clean 911 that needs nothing. It's very nice to just drive a car your happy with and not think about paint, bearings, rubber, seats, synchros.......you get the point.

I bin down that road to....thats why I never did the 911...by the time I got to it...I was burned out...and the check book was a mite thiner to.
But now I'm comin around to fixin the 911....so far from the poll results....I'm thinkin even harder.... My next query is who to have do the work...I have someone in mind...if he is still interested...but him aside I will need to find somebody? PS...At one time I was restoring my 69 Mach1 428, a 66 427/425 Corvette and a 1970 Dodge Challenger 440/6 Pack as well as the feeding of a 1976 RR LWB.... poor Porsche.....I shouda just stayed with the 911S....

Wow! Do you still have any of those cars? Very nice. You ARE a man of wealth and taste with choices such as those
. Good luck with the resto. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how critical it is to have a reputable, experienced shop take on your project.

Well in the poll you state that you really want a 356 cab.
Go for what you really want do some garage cleaning and sell the 69 to someone that wants to finish it off. You will be happy and will make another ones day too.

I see now...
Work slowly on the 911s, that is a dream car for many of us. Take a look at the 356b, but if it doesn't really grab you hold out for the 356cab.

Your advice is very GOOd goat........I think the Polls overwhelming concensus is to fix what I have and wait for the 356 Cab to come along....that 356C for 19K sounds like a better deal than the 356B....
I am an invenerate treasure seeker....I am always looking for something..whether it be Gold in the ground, Art and Antiques at estate sales/auctions, Guns where ever I can find them or cars rusting in the desert... BTW...I have found a diamond in the rough Porsche in my recent travels, I have left a message that I would like to buy the car...but nothing has come back as of yet....

This past week I have found a 1972 911S just sitting out in the catus rusting away.....it is a complete CA car that has not been registered in 19 years. It shows some surface rust from having been outdoors for many years...also I suspect that the interior is baked. The big question is does it have any serious rust and does it still have the orginal motor? I have a feeling that the motor is still orginal in that it hasn't been registered in 19 years..that when the motor went in 1985 it was just parked....Also from looking at the body it shows no signs of major rusting...
I have left a message with the owner stating that I would like to buy the car pending an inspection...but am disapointed in that I have not been called about it...this is one of 2 cars that I have been seriously looking for in the weeds errrr catus....now that I have found it it is still unatainable .....
