Naked is good. If I were looking for more wind protection the Ducati Multistrada would be a contender. Appearance wise the Daytona looks like the rest of the bikes out there though I'm sure it's a nice ride. No extra plastic for me.

The Multistrada is a sweet bike. I rode the first one that the dealership had out here when I was looking. I just liked the "beefier" feel of the GS, since I commute to work on it often, and it can get windy here on the Front Range.

Have you looked at the Moster S2R? They are reasonably priced and are sweet bikes....if only I wasn't so dang tall....

I just bought some more MX stuff, and after looking, most of the websites had the exact same prices for everything (mainly I was looking for boots, and ended up with the Sidi Force SRS boots, I have liked my Sidi Discoveries...).

The Multistrada position feels a bit too much "sit up and beg" for me. I know what you mean about being tall on a Monster...my 620 just feels really cramped. The S2R is a very nice bike as long as you don't want to tweak the suspension.

I'd have to ride a Multistrada to like it (even if then...). I was lukewarm about the Daytona until I rode it. Very smooth, impressive bike -- and the sound it puts out is magic. The single-sided swing arm is nifty as well.

Isn't there a higher-riding Monster? The last time I looked there was an S4 or something -- which had 2" of additional vertical. It didn't look as cool as the "typical" Monster, but it fit better.

I really liked the way the Multistrada looked, and the way they run the exhaust is just damn cool. Not too mention how easy the thing pulled a wheely... The seat was horrible, I felt like I was sitting on a board coverd in vinyl (although seats can be easily changed, but like anything Italian, I am sure even the aftermarket ones are pricy). I just read they introduced a couple new variants to the line, more geared towards the street and not some dual sport, so I might have to ride one of those for fun.

I wouldn't think he would need to mess with the suspension (other than changing the ride height, which when set higher I uess makes for a uicker handling bike).

JP,

The S4R used the liquid cooled motor from the 996, where as the S2R uses an air-cooled 803 twin.

Both have adjustmable rear suspension, but hte S4R has differnt (adjustable) forks and brakes and still uses a steel tank.

Some of the GS before I got the tank repainted...yeah dual sprot bikes do fall too. Now you can see why BMW changed the design for the R1200GS to use replaceable plastic side panels on the gas tank.

I will post pictures tonight of the repaired and non stock looking repainted tank...

and my alarm system...

The buddy from whom I bought the Aprilia is seriously into motorcycles -- and he swears by the Benelli. Not my cup o' tea, but there is one model with twin radiator fans under the seat -- the Tornado

Candidate #2. 2001 Ducati Monster 900, 7K miles, aftermarket pipes, second owner, bike has a Flow Master fuel system, asking $5900.

Any words of wisdom here? What about the fuel system, warning signs? I'm trying to determine if the 6K mile service has been done. Owner claims the front brake might need service but claims bike is super clean and well maintained by downtown shop (GP). I'm scheduled to ride the 01 Triple tomorrow morning and hopefully this bike later that afternoon.

My neighbor had that exhaust on his 01 750 Monster. Make sure if you get it to let the insurance company know, as they will cover it too. I can't say much about hte fuel system.

You might want some real mirrors though......

The Tergimoni exhaust is a plus (although I prefer high mount). Never heard of that injection system...maybe post at http://www.ducatimonster.org and ask. The '01 900 was a fuel injected bike, and the enthusiasts are split on FI v. carbs. If you like to tinker, carbs are the way to go.
