I can understand why the passenger died, given the damage on that side of the car. But I wonder what injuries the driver suffered for him to die too? The report says they were wearing their seatbelts and helmets, maybe it wasn't a full racing belt with head restraint......

Carbon Fiber!

I think that if that were a steel bodied car we would have seen a hugely contorted structure.

Carbon Fiber doesn't bend (much) it just holds rigidly then snaps.

I take it you are thinking it's a lack of force absorption? All of the kinetic energy was transferred to the driver and passenger? Where-as a steel structured car with crumple zones would of softenned the blow, and perhaps spared the passengers?

No, I think they were most likely done either way. . ...just that with steel, the impact result (the car body) would have looked much nastier. (bent and crushed . .we are just seeing "crushed" here)
