e-Bay Treasures

I have maintained that if you look on the bay you can buy some really great pieces of art for a song...this was $200...and is 24 X 18.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117669335.jpg

This second one is smaller and unsigned, but I believe it to be by Sam Hyde Harris and was $107

Sure you know. He's "the painter of light," ""the wallpaper of light," "the china maker of light," "the home-decor person of light," even now "the relaxation CD and tape recording artist of light." Somewhere in there he became "the sell-out guy of light."

tabs 06-01-2005 06:16 PM

But look at it this way...now he buy some really good art....

tabs 06-01-2005 06:19 PM

Yes. Ironic, isn't it? Whaddya bet he can't tell a real Reubens from a fake, though.

There was a guy who consigned art for years at Abells for their Sunday Sales....each of the paintings he consigned had a artists Bio taped to the back.....what was ironic was that 2 different paintings he consigned by DIFFERENT artists were using the EXACT same colour pallet..... each painting brought about 7K.....

The reason I ascribe one of the paintings above to be by Sam Hyde Harris is:

1. There is a Art Supply house by the name of the Louve stamped on the back of the frame....The Louve was in business in the 1920's in Downtown LA....

Sam Hyde Harris lived in Alhambra, CA just a few minutes away from the Louve....

The house in the painting looks like the small bungalows that are in Alhambra

The colour pallet and brush style are the same as Harris's work....

The painting appears to be something done perhaps as a study, perhaps something just to keep his chops up...

Plus, Sam Hyde Harris is a well-renown L.A. area artist. That's a good little find, actually.

You know who I used to like? Pinot. Now he's friggin' everywhere but the damn duty free shop at JFK and LAX.

If someone thought to buy a Pinot as an investment five years ago, best of luck to them now...SmileWavy

The top painting has a NYC Art Supply house stamp on it....the signature looks like Grouper....but thats not his style of work and this doesn't fit Gruppe..style or pallet....so I don't really know???

The ones that are gone were better.....

I've been watching Ebay for Stuart Davis art. These things show up from time to time with a disclaimer saying they have no paperwork so they're being sold "in the manner of" Stuart Davis.

Ok... the art looks like Stuart Davis and the signature looks like Stuart Davis, but we can't promise you he painted this piece. Well, if this really was an original Stuart Davis piece it would be worth as much as $250K. Seems like if there's a snowball's chance that it is real it would be worth it to the seller to find out.

Oh man! Is that the "fire it in there, fire it in there!" artist from PBS decades ago? I use to watch that when I was like 6 or 8 or so. Hillarious.
