NEVER take your seller with you when you get a ppi.
That is your information that you are paying for and you should be able to use it the way you want. What that joker did was use you. Next time, give structure a bill of sale. Give him a buck and say for $1 tendered, buyer (you) has right to purchase car from seller for amount agreed.
Both of you sign and leave him at the local dairy queen a half mile down the road while you guys do the ppi., imho.

Buy from fellow enthusiasts!!

This is why I limit my Porsche searches to this site, PCA, and Rennlist. Enthusiasts frequent the aforementioned sites and are more likely to take care of their "babies". In my search, I was also made aware of reputable used Porsche dealers. I try to stay away from ebay unless I personally see the car and the dealer has excellent feedback.

If you are the seller, are you going to let a potential buyer drive off by himself with your car to get a PPI?

The best thing (at least in hindsight for this case) would have been a written contract before the PPI. Technically there was a contract, there is just the problem of proving who agreed to what if the contract breech was going to be disputed in court.

The only issue with that logic is that such enthusiasts tend of 'over value' their cars. As such, the cost of such a car is typically above 'fair market value.'

But then again, we enthusiasts tend to spend over and above what we should on our toys. Case in point: paying $5500.00 for a new head on a car that's worth about $8000.00 max.

-Z-man, the man who spent $5.5k on a new head on an $8k car...

I disagree. Fair market value is the price paid for a car. If one pays a higher price for a club-sponsored car, that is still FMV. What the buyer does by passing on other opptys is that to get a car under FMV.

How can someone get a car under FMV, if what they pay IS FMV by your definition?
