deWalt battery DEAD!

i have been helping my neighbor, so i have my batteries on rotation on the charger. 18V drill.

i went into the garage, and heard a quiet whining. a buzz. i tracked the sound down to my charger, which had my brandnew battery on it. i immediately yanked the plug. the battery melted into the charger! i cannot separate the two! crap! i thought it was ok to leave a battery charging, because the charger light would go to blinking when the battery was full. did i eff up? i have been doing this forever. and why didnt my older battery toast. this ever happen to anyone else?

i bet another battery and charger is more money than a new drill setup.

I've gone the whole tool route..Makita, Dewalt, Craftsman,..you name it. After all the dust settled (and believe me, it was alot of dust) I've settled on Millwaukee and Porter Cable for all my power tools with some Bosch and Hitachi thrown in here and there. Dewalt was OK, but it is still just Black &Decker which I never had much luck with. Oh, and Skil which I still think makes the best worm drive saw.
