Rear Ended in a customers car today...how lucky am I?
I picked up a 911 from the radio shop today. I hate driving customer cars. It just seems that the only time something goes wrong is in somebody else's car.
I was preparing to turn right onto a busy street. Just as I let out the clutch the danm thing popped out of gear by the time I got the clutch back in and back into gear. Thud!! from the rear. I got what felt like a good solid push so was expecting the worst. Pulled over right away and the driver of the other vehicle ( a freafin SUV by Toyota) pulled right up and asked immediately if I was OK. I've got to admit that I was a bit relieved to see the other driver was a middle age male, dressed very well and wasn't on a cell phone. He seemed very concerned about my condition and then the car, which upon close inspection was not harmed. I can see from the displaced dirt that the rear bumper shock has collapsed but nothing else. Ironically enough the incident left his front bumper cover with a pretty good scar in it the shape of the 911's bumper guard. We exchanged info just as a matter of formality and went on our way.So I guess I got lucky today!

I haven't talked to my customer yet but I don't expect much of a reaction out of him. No real damage to the car and the radio still works fine. It really comes down to just a good end to a bad day. The real irony is that when I took the car to the stereo shop Techweenie followed me over and stayed right behind me and gave me a ride back to work. Today when they called and said the car was ready I drove over by myself and left my truck parked on the street. I was going to get a ride back later after work. Having no one trustworthy behind me left me vulenerable. That could have been a fatefull mistake.

I knew someone was behind me when I pulled up to the intersection. When I went to pull away and it popped out of gear I immediately went to look behind me to see if they had started rolling yet. I just didn't get that far before he hit me. In all fairness if the car hadn't popped out of gear I wouldn't have stopped and he wouldn't have hit me. 'course I didn't tell him that part.

I think 911s are prone to getting rear ended. Apparently other drivers become mesmerized when following them.
