Any cops here?
Driving back to school tonight on the Mass pike I saw a Black Crown Vic that no one was willing to pass, including myself. Upon closer inspection I noticed it looked like the crown vic has some sort of tinted windows and a small antenna on the trunk. It was kind of hard to see since it was dark out. It also had a customized license plate "A 990" Obviously this guy appeared to be a cop and I'm thinking if he is his customized license plate says something funny in cop speak. S does anyone know what a 990 is.

I don't want to speak out of place but it seems that the "boys in blue" on this board like to keep things on the down low. Probably has something to do with the "hey buddy can ya fix this ticket for me" sydrome.
|
No worries on the Mass. pike. Driving home from Maine I was cruising at a steady 90 and had to move over for a state trooper. The other cars in the left lane did the same and the trooper was on his way.

My father in law has a retired Crown Vic Police Interceptor - outboard spotlight and all - and raves that he gets "a lot of respect" while driving that car. It's actually a damn solid car, esp considering how much it cost (not much!)
|
I've often toyed with the idea of a Crown Vic as a daily driver...order it black, steel wheels, etc. You'd probably have clear sailing in the left lane...like Moses parting the sea.
|
As a cop, I don't think the Crown Vic was a police car. They are owned by the agency we work for and we would not put personal plates on them. Most police cars, including "slicks", have government plates on them. It may be different in other states though. I speak of California.

I'm not a cop and I have no idea what 990 means.
I saw a cop and a large African American guy about to go at it near my old house in Austin. I called 911 and told there was a cop about to get the ***** be out of him (my exact words). They said they already new. When I came out of the store where I made call. There was a black car with dark tinted windows with a red light on the dash hauling a$$ toward the scene with more marked cars in tow. Very Hollywood looking and cool. The cop was OK, a large good samaritan came up behind the other guy and took him down. In case your wondering why he didn't pull his gun, try pulling a gun out with someone right there. |

Here in Florida, I've seen unmarked city police with regular license tags, same with sherrif and FHP. Even non-"cop car" type cars, like SUVs, etc. They all have *really* dark tinted windows though.

It's just that there may be folks on the board that would be sensitive to such a statement that is generic in nature but just had to have that "added" fact. Myself, doesn't bother me but it may bother someone else... No biggy.. |

Your description was complete enough convey the message you wanted to share with the group with out triggering any outbreaks of ADD. When does attention to detail become an issue of prejudice? |

I think you know understand the nature of my statement. |
nature of your statement? What are you, the PC police? If I notice a black guy, I notice a black guy. By noticing but pretending you didn't, or intentionally leaving details out, it shows just as much prejudice.
"I saw two individuals about to go at it near my old house in Austin" |

I remember seeing lots of large guys looting in New Orleans.
|
did you see that skinny guy wading chest deep in water with a case of beer in his grasp? I thought that was histerical. OOOOPS I'm sorry I didn't mean to say "skinny"!

The "Aggressive Driver Unit" cars here have ordinary plates. There are all makes and models. One was a white Volvo station wagon. Super dark tinted windows. I was baited by one and given a ticket for 72 in a 60. While we were in the 70 mph zone, he insisted on adjusting his speed so as to remain in my passenger side blind spot. I held my speed going into the 60 mph zone because I wanted this guy to get OUT of my blind spot. We were the only two cars on a six-lane freeway at six o-clock on a Saturday morning. I wish it were still about safety instead of revenues.
|
So, the cops USE dark tinted windows, but don't like it when we have 'em! Hmmmm, sounds a lot like some of the folks who wish to overturn the 2nd amendment. All members of Congress can carry concealed. Many do. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it seems hypocritical when a member of Congress who carries votes to deny the same to other law abiding citizens.

Notice the statement above....and what was said to the the 911 operator....no inference to ethnicity....NOW if the police came and he was asked to describe what he saw..then OK.... It's like "I was driving down the street and saw an accident. This "White/Asian/Latino/Russian/etc guy" hit this van... Why the inference to race is my question? If he was White...I doubt that the original statement would have been "I saw a cop and a large White guy about to go at it" See my point???? Lighting the cigar now..... |

Whites (people or European descent) are still the majority in the U.S. If I was in China, and described a fight to you: "I saw two guys get into a fight"--you would assume they were both Chinese. If I said to you (still in China) "I saw the police arrest a white guy"--you would assume the police were Chinese. It's context, not necessarily racism. |

Around my daughters I would never say "Some air head woman in a mini-van hit my car...I may think it but I'd be careful not to say that in mixed company.........Know what I mean? Taking a puff.... |
I miss my Crown Vic.:(
When I was Fire Chief I had an 2002 CV Police Interceptor, as my Chiefs car. For a month when i first got it, it was unmarked. It was great, always had the left lane to myself!:D I gotta tell ya, that car hauled a**! Handled great too. As far as braking ability, you just had to blow on the pedal and the car would stop. Awsome car!! |

I was driving across the Alley and a all black ZR-1 corvette went by me doing about 110 mph. It had a plate that looked a little like this, had some government writting in little text on the left side:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1129147924.jpg

Not yet... they were talking about some place off of the strip... not sure if I want to do that... if that is the case I will stay on the strip... MGM isn't bad but Venetian is fab...

My brother is a vice cop here in Tampa. He had a Crown Vic with a gov. tag and spot light and said you would be suprized by the dumba$$ people that don't think it's a cop car. They want to race him on the intersate or don't pull over or pass him doing 90 mph.
Now he has a Ford SUV that you would never quess was a cop car. 'Cept for that 12 ga. standing up against the dash on the pass. side. But he can't make traffic stops with it. And I've met some of his vice guys. You would never think they were cops. So you better be careful when you are getting those lap dances down here. The guy next to you could be a cop. |

The Oregon State Supreme Court just ruled that live sex acts on stage are legal...free speech. I guess the only reason Vice Cops would want to hang out in Oregon strip/sex bars would be to nail drug dealers. In Portland, they don't go after the street walkers, they go after the johns with female decoys...that way they can confiscate the car.
